Default TC interior layout

Hey,

i'm a big fan of the 350Z..but it's abit beyond my budget...but now that i'm after the TC...i just realized how similar the TC interior looks in comparison to the 350Z. Of course..it's not the same..but there is keen resembelence...for instance the 3 spoke steering wheel, 3 gauge clusters, radio cover lid, center control

350Z inteior

TC interior

and surprisingly.. the TC looks roomier. Man..i'm falling in love with the TC .

You know just about every car has the same thing... Center console is aluminum now mostly... Three spoke is on every Toyota... Everything looks the same in every car...

The radio cover is a little different then alot of cars.

It stood out to me because I've always wanted to put a computer in a car with a touch screen LCD, and that double DIN with the cover is perfect for it ( for security reasons) , since no one will even know it's there when it's closed.

Only if you're as popular as me

Nah but seriously, carputers rule... they can replace your deck as your new audio/video source in your car. It's really just a novelty thing for me, because I'm into car audio AND computers and the idea of combining the two was always cool for me.

Pretty sweet, ain't it?

I've been doing research on that stuff for the past year or so.

With all the advancements in smaller sized computer cases, front end software optimized specifically for a car, and a 7 inch touchscreen LCD you can get for about 500 bucks, it's becoming a lot more real.

I think I could do it with about 1 grand... and about a summer's worth of work. A big part of making it professional is just spending alot of time working at it

check out this website if you guys want more info. These guys sell alot of car-puter stuff.

It's rare that there's some trend that I just feel too old to fully understand, but this "carputer" thing is one of them. I really just don't get why anybody would do that.

In a very detailed sense, its the ability to play DVDs, use computer software, load hundreds of thousands of mp3s into your deck, GPS navigation availability, and have it all under a pretty little front end program that you could design yourself to be unique to your vehicle.

In a very basic sense, it looks sweet. It makes you stand out, makes you custom, and it makes you better.

Dude, have you seen the pictures?!?!

No, I understand what it is. I just don't really get why. I mean, yeah, sure, I have a 20 GB Archos mp3 player in my car so I can listen to two weeks of music if I ever feel the need. Only about 15 GB filled at the moment, but still. I can see dropping tons of money into in-dash mp3 players and hard drives, amps, subs, etc., etc.

But, uh... you can't play video games, watch movies, or use computer software while you're driving. Or, I mean, I guess you could, but it wouldn't be terribly safe. I guess your passengers could watch movies or play video games. But who cares about them?

I guess I could see having it just for the coolness factor... but that's a lot of money to pump into something just for coolness factor. Whatever floats your boat, though

First off you have a lot more control over everything than if you had those awkward in dash hard drives, mp3 players, and such.
Plus it's really not that much money. I could finish the job for cheaper then it would cost buying an in dash pop out alpine DVD player.

When I said 1 grand, I meant subs, speakers, amps and everything. Totally finished AV carputer job.

But that's just because I have a ton of spare computer parts laying around as a result from building and rebuilding home computers for the last 7 or 8 years.

And it's also because I shop reaaaaaaaaaaaaal smart.

Friends don't let friends buy from crutchfield

I guess it's not a bad deal.

But for me, I spent $200 on an mp3 jukebox, about ten bucks for one of those adapters that plugs into the headphone jack on the mp3 player and goes into the tape player in dash, and I'm set.

I'm planning to spend at least 2K on parts alone for my audio :D

Good luck with your carputer :D

Smart is the only way to shop btw... (eBay LOL)

As for installation, I'm gonna go custom so thats prolly 1K there

If you can pull off the carputer for 1K... I'd be
