Default is the tC' key under warranty?

I looked at my key recently... the rubber on the 'unlock' portion has a crack in it! Plus the overall condition of the black rubber is well worn in. I am afraid that if any water gets in, it'll damage the circuitry inside. Do you guys think it would be covered under warranty? I've had my tC since July.

should be able to get it fixed. if it looks like a naturla cause then it should be fine. also it might depend if your dealer is a good and generous dealer or a horrible one

that should fall under the standard warranty. it would be a manufacturer defect

makes sense... the only thing is, I'm afraid they'll have to make a new key (for whatever reason) - doesn't that cut into the limited amount of keys they can make for the immobilizer? I guess I'll just have to find out on Monday. Thanks for the input guys.

Does anyone have this issue yet?

Yeah. I keep cursing myself for not getting all 5 keys from the dealership instead of 2 and the 'valet' key.

My daily use key is wearing badly around the buttons, and it looks like the actual button underneath is going to pierce through soon.

Default key replacement

they rubber on the buttons can be replaced without replacing the chip and metal key. its just a housing.

I havent looked at the warranty terms on the Scion's yet...

But usually things like that / electronic things in the car (radio / power window / lock switchs) are coverd 1year/120000miles...

i dont think the 5 key limit is for the life of the car...im pretty sure they can erase the ones that arent in use...i know this is how it works on chrysler products

the key would have to be programmed...

so the 250 could be including re-program and tax?

im gonig to make some calls and try to find out the cost of the key just for fun ;)

i think i'll be talking directly to scion about that key.. mine started messing up about 2 weeks ago.. checked the battery but the voltage is good (2.8-2.9 v out of a possible 3v).. i did change batteries just to see.. it is also getting worn on the button areas, and i take good care of it.. it's intermittent with not working. the 2nd key seems to be working better, but I keep using the first key to make sure it messed up again. i won't be paying for another key at roughly $200.. i think scion will be paying for another if it messes up again, that's covered under warranty.. parents had a mercury villager that the keys kept messing up, was always done under warranty
