tc newby and need advice!
Hi! i just joined this forum and was hoping to find a little advice. I'm really looking for a good car, and someone told me i should check out the scion tc's. so i checked them out and i found this one its a 2005 with 141000 miles. its only had one owner and it was all highway miles and used very easily. its just had 4 new tires, new brakes, axles, clutch and alignment done to it. the guy wants 5500$ for it. is this to much? i heard that they're really good cars and the engines are really reliable so i figured if it was used easy for highway miles the high mileage shouldn't be worth worrying to much about. it has a full clean title and it has all power and everything. what do you think? that to much? should i be worried about the high mileage and other problems that might come up? thanks for your help!
you still got about another 50 to 100k left on the car.... so yeah...
you can find tcs with 40,000 miles on them for about $9,000-$10,000.
what are you tryn to get out of this car.... beater, builder, etc..
for $5000 i think you could find something with less miles and and still be a nice car..
hell i bought my 2000 chevy malibu with 38,000 miles on it for $4,500..
just my $.02

If I were you, I would find one with less miles for a couple thousand more. I feel you would be happier and that way you would have to worry less about maintenance and more about modding!
Good luck my friend.
Good luck my friend.
Ya I agree. check out other cars first. I mean I didnt know that the tC was one of the top 10 worst cars to insure. So on top of my ticket or two I have the tC was already higher then other cars in its class. If you want it buy it. go with your gut. That is what I always say with buying a car. But my gut would say no to that one.
well first, i prolly won't put much into modding. maybe bout a cold air intake but thats bout it. i wouldn't beat it. and the reason i liked the tc is because of everything i've heard about reliability. consumer reports supposedly rated it #1 two years in a row for reliability. as far as insurance, i'm not worried about that, i got that covered, thanks!
lol how do you know its all highway miles dont beleive that crap for 5500 you could get a brand new kia rio w/lifetime warranty for that lol and have insurance that isnt sky high
a NEW tc is reliable and i would suggest..
but..
140,000 miles i don't know how reliable it is gonna be...
any toyota will be reliable

being i the car bizi think its an ok deal. Most inportant if you really want the car i would suggest getting the car looked over by a ASE certified mechanich. That way you know for sure that nothing is leaking or about to go bad. On the price im sure you can negotiate a bit.
by the way these prices is assuming the car is 5spd.in the are were i live values are higher on 5sd tc's and lower on automatics, normally its backwards lol. hope this helps.

For that mileage if it is in decent shape then that is actually pretty close to blue book value. But, if you dont know what to look for, take it to a good mechanic to have it looked over before buying it. Try to find out what they have done to the car (ask open ended.. chances are they wont know what to lie about as easilly
) maintenance wise outside of items like oil changes. But honestly, if you looked around, you could probably find someone selling one with a bit lower mileage for not much more. My 05 only has about 75,000 miles on it.. but it blue books at about $10,000 too. So you may need to shop around. With the economy, there are probably others that are needing to get rid of one to get out from under debt. May be able to get a better price there.
And I dont pay any more for insurance on my tC than I do any other car really. My 01 4Runner costs me about the same right now. I am no 20 year old kid, which helps, but I dont have a perfect record either (couple of mild speeding tickets).

then why the hell do YOU sell them for so much more
lol
hmmm... i think i would offer 4,000 for it, assuming everything is OK.
You can never take someones word for it that "its all highway miles", always assume the car has had the snot beaten out of it.

Just adding that I paid $4,300 for my '05 with 81K miles. My friend(only owner) was offered $6K as a trade-in on his new GT, but preferred the cash.
For one with 141K miles I would pay no more than $5K.
