Default TC: OBDII Location, and thoughts on display choices

Hi, I'm thinking of fabbing a new dash piece that would go around the shift boot and up to cover the cubby hole in a curve, i just mocked it up with cardboard and it looks pretty good.

into this I will be mounting my remote radar display and then i thought it might be nice to add some gauges.

Now I'm staying NA for at least the next 9 months, so i figured that maybe something digital would be nice.

I'm looking at either the i-moni, or the apexi rev/speed which seem to be about the same cost on ebay circa $160.

Anyone used either of these, thoughts, input, anything.

Thanks in advance.

My personal feelings, I like the i-moni for the pure simplicity, and if the obdII is under the passenger dash that would be even better. But for the same money the rev/speed is very all bells and whistles. But the installation instructions seem somewhat daunting. Lots of splicing.

The OBDII connector is located beneath the drivers side dash as far as I remember. I have only hooked to it once to test my AutoTap, but have connected to a number of others since then so you may want to double check that

I'm thinking I might go with my radar mounted across the top of the new panel.

under that the i-moni slightly to the right, and to the left (balancing it all) one of those series of lights that progress as you rev (going from bottom to top).

maybe not the most practical place, but they are dirt cheap, only need a power supply and should round everything off nicely.

Thoughts?

I'll get some pic with my cardboard cut out this afternoon.

the port is on the driver side. I have a scanguage in that cubby hole and it fits perfectly. I had to take apart the center console to get it to fit in. But it fits like a glove. People asked me if that came with the car.

this scan gauge ?

Only thing I don't like is that teh screen seems tiny, if teh screen was twice the size I'd be interested.

but on the i moni has less features. You can look at 4 different things at once. plus the scanguage has less wires. Its just a plug n play. you dont even need a power wire

Have you got any pictures of it in situ ?

Also, looking at teh box, would it (in your opinion) be easy to mount it into a dash piece so that the screen and the buttons are visible but nothing else?

Thanks

My personal opinion is that it takes up way to much space for the size of the screen. One of the things I liked about the i-moni is it's dimensions are almost as big as the screen, and the numbers of the screen are huge.

That sadi the rev/speed is lovely, and shows SOOOO much more info.

Anyone installed the rev/speed feels like sharing the experience please jump in.
