Default tC review

Anyone see a black scion tC with blacked out emblems going about 80 - 90 mph (or faster) on the 101 either fri or sunday?.....

Anyways, I just took my first major trip in my tC from Santa Monica to San Jose, and this is my review on how it went. Round trip around 1200 miles and I took the 101 pretty much the whole way up. First of all, the average cruising speed was between 80 - 90 mph, the fastest i achieved on this trip was about a one minute burst at 130. At 80 your rpm's are at about 3k, 90mph your doing 3.5k and 100 about 4k. I didn't look at the rpm's when I was doing 130, I wasn't even looking at the spedometer, my friend in the car told me how fast I was going, I was too scared to take my eyes off of the road for even a second. The car is completely stable even when changing lanes at 130, but I do have the trd springs and struts, hotchkis sway bars, and the dc strut bar.

I remember specifically at one point where the road almost turned 90 degrees, the the reccomended speed was 50 and i was doing 80 around it no problem while everyone else was slowing down. The only thing that I could possibly complain about is the road/wind noise, but that was to be expected.

For anyone who is going, or is planning on going on long road trips, I would reccommend getting a Valentine one Radar and laser detector, as it helped me out numerous times on my journey, I swear without it I would have got atleast 1 ticket.

The best part of the whole thing was i got up to San Jose with only 1 full tank of gas!!! Mind you it was pretty empty when I arrived at my destination, but at the speeds i was cruising at, and the short bursts of high speed I was completely impressed.

Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know how this car is on long trips, and its capabilities. Hope someone finds this info interesting, write back if anyone saw me fly by.

Yeah, the Valentine detector is top-notch, as I hear.

I took my one road trip from Miami to Ft. Lauderdale. Got on the Palmetto Express Way and was goin about 70-90 due to light traffic. Along the way I became friends with an Integra. We jokingly raced a few times along the freeway with his gf in his car and my 3 band-mates in my car. Then after a while I got directions from him while still driving about 80mph. From there we split up, me getting on I-95 for the rest of the trip. The tC handles amazingly and I don't have any suspension mods. The only thing that I don't like is that we have a 5-spd so the rpms get pretty high and waste a lot of gas when you're on the freeway. But you can't have everything. I still love my tC!

get a passport x50. even has POP (instant on detection). It is the best out there. V1s are over rated.

You didn't have any problems with the speed limiter kicking in at 118?

My tC hits 4K at 82mph. 4K at 100mph, I'll have to try that in the morning

Actually, I did that thing where you could get both detectors for 30 days, and try them both at the same time. First of all, the V1 has pop protection just like the x50, secondly for me, the V1 was better because it was able to tell me exactly where the radar was coming from, and how many there were. I know a lot of people complain about the sensitivity of the V1, but I live in a rural area, so there are practially no false alarms for me(I only get them when i go by the grocery store)

I swear to god. I filled up at the gas station a block away from my house, and made it all the way to San Jose State University which is where I was going. The refuel light came on, and the needle was getting low, but we made it there fine. On the trip home, I filled up near the school, and made it back home on one tank too.

The speed limiter didn't kick in at 118, I never got it to kick in, yet I didn't go any faster than 130. My tc hits 3K rpm at 80mph, but the difference might be that you have a stick and I have an auto. the auto's are geared differently, so thats maybe why you have such high rpm's, I'm not completely sure though.

With the arrows though, you dont always have to slow down. On this trip, I found that there are some senarios where it is best to speed up :D

I used to live in Pacific Palisades and now in Santa Cruz. It is about 380 miles from Santa Monica to San Jose via the 101. Thanks for the road trip story. Can't wait to make the same drive in my tc when I get it...

Sorry about that discrepancy guys. What I think happened is when I printed out the map from Yahoo, I multiplied it by 2 to get the round trip #, which is 685 miles. I totally forgot that I already did that, so in my origional post I accidently said 1200 miles as the round trip.

But still, 343 miles (one way) divided by a 14.5 gallon fuel tank = almost 24 miles per gallon while cruising between 80-90 mph!!!(with occasional bursts at higher speeds.

Sorry again

John
