I must be honest I wanted to do the same thing. Unfortunately, I did it in the most retarded way possible. I ended up drifting through a fence with my auto and totalling it. Collected the value of the car through comprehensive insurance. Went and bought a new manual and only took a hit of about 1,000. Of course my rates went up but not as much as you would think. Aside from my retardation, I really liked my auto tC. I'm kinda sad I don't have it anymore honestly. But I love the manual. Its sooooo much better. If you really like the tC and want to trade yours in for a manual. IMO I don't think you would be disappointed in doing so. Just my $.02
