I like the orange on white, that looks pretty cool, but I wonder if there is a way to strip the color off the orange needles and make them blue, white on blue or blue on white is probably the best combo

I want to do the conversion but I dunno if I want to take the plunge, I'm great at soldering but I don't have a low-watt iron, I have a cold-heat hand one and a 60-watt

I think I'll do it.... it's sooooo tempting

I figure if i changed the dash, i would have to change the radio to match also since I don't have the 6 disk changer. Then that'd all just be too much work.

Okay, here's a mini guide for you:

Acetone soaked on a q-tip will remove the paint on the needles in about two seconds. Just gently rub the q-tip against the back of the needle and it will strip right off.

In order to get proper illumination at night, you have to first lay down the color you want, let dry, and then paint with white. The white provides a solid backing for the color so when you view the needle top down you see a solid color and not splotches.

Don't paint any other part of the needle other than the bottom. To do so will decrease the ability to see the needle at night as it needs clear sides to let the ambient light in to illuminate. Plus extra paint will just weigh the needle down and make the gauge inaccurate.

Use Testors' Pactra Racing Finish paint for the best results. This paint was made for painting lexan RC car bodies and so will stick to the needle without any problems. Use a flourescent color for easy to read needles.

Buy the best brush you can afford or you will just mess up the painting the needle and get paint on the sides of the needle. I used a #0 size brush and it worked out well.

Go to your local hobby shop and you will be able to find the paint and brushes there.

sweet man.. SWEET! i love it.. few questions for you though.

Dimmer sill works right? the LEDs are the exact voltage and stuff as stock.. right? im worried about reliability.. Clusters are exspensive to replace.

ALSO when taking all that stuff apart... did you notice the manufacturer/supplier of any ofthe parts? cluster... Climate control panel.. etc?

Tanks a lot bro.

Are you getting different (ie: brighter) leds for the other lcd? Or are they the same ones? Why not just do everything with the super bright ones if that is the case?

Climate control computer is a Denso unit. I have been looking for a cheap replacement because I cracked my LCD. Remember the LCD on the gauge cluster is socketed but the one in the climate control is not. The on the climate control circuit board has a white plastic shroud that holds in the LCD with the individual pins sectioned off. It looks too much like a socket.

The only other markings I remember on the gauge cluster is on the back of the gauge backings. It said something Meter Japan and then followed by Toyota.
