thats the way the clock was designed. most of the cars ive had with digital clocks have always stayed on wether the key is in or the car is running. its not a problem.

I think that's cheap... That was one of my initial complaints...the clock seemed like an afterthought...like something you get at the dollar store.

It is pretty much an afterthought, but it doesn't really matter. I mean, it's backlight at night, and you can read it in the day. What more do you need? That being said, If there will be an aftermarket replacement released that is digital, i'll be all over it.

All Volkswagens are like that, and they don't seem to have a problem. A tiny little LCD clock that takes less power than a Timex Indiglo watch isn't going to do any harm, if you're worried about power consumption.

I think most of Honda cars have the digital clock with the clock staying on even with the engine off and keys out.

Remember the average age on these forums.

...and of course, Cybergypsy pops by to further hate on the car she doesn't even own...

The clock is only one item on that LCD display - there are also readouts for the heating and A/C system, and the switchable outside temp. It's a useful display, and I'm not sure what they'd have done to make it "cooler." You want a pulsating light show?

I was thinking like a neon for each digital panel of each number. So, like seven neons to display an '8'. That would make the clock acceptable at least. That and a voice recognition system.

"tC, what is the time?"
"The time is: 3:30PM."
"tC, what is the time in Germany?"
"..."
"WHAT??!!! YOU DON'T DO WORLD TIME???! That's IT! I'm getting a refund! ... Stupid POS..."

that's wrong. scions should have nothing in common with buicks.
both having an engine and tires is pushing it too.
