Default TC's stock tires?

Why do I keep hearing that the stock tires are crappy, or that they suck? They're not the highest quality tire, but they seem to be pretty nice. They grip the road fine, and I have plenty of traction. What's the big deal?

Plus, I also hear that the tires on the 18' option by Scion are better. I imagine that they're probably a little better quality, but doesn't the 18' rim make the drivability not as good. I had always read this from "Car and Driver", and "Road and Track" etc. and those guys are as knowledgeable about cars as they come.

The 17's are good tires. The only reason why the 18's would be better is because they have a little more low profile tire on them, they are pirelli's and they are wider. Wider wheels are going to handle better but you go too big then they are too heavy and there are some things you sacrafice with bigger wheels.

I'll answer this one.

First off, the stock tires don't entirely "suck" but they are not great for performance driving. However, they are "good" tires. The 18's option - a lot of people are getting different tires. I got Toyo's. They are excellent and I am thrilled to have them,

Supposedly the 18's are actually 1lb lighter (wheel) than the stock 17's (i Have not weighed them)

They are fairly low profile and will be prone to curb rash however. They look great and come with slightly wider (barely) better tires. The Toyo's have grip like you would not believe.

How much ($) are the Toyos that you have? Do they make the same tire for the 17' (stock) rims.

Also, the the 17' are Z rated aren't they. Aren't tires that are Z rated good for high speed? Maybe not overall performance?

Z-rated tires are often a stickier compound that is good for cornering, higher speed, etc. They are often not the longest lasting tires.

Toyo has many sizes available - the TOYO Proxies 4 are great tires - unless you leave near snow. the TS-1's are even better, but are only good in dry weather.

That is the stock 17" size.

All I'm saying man is in the time it takes to make a post that's been posted 100 times before (and answered extensively) and ____ing off us losers (...a pot calling the kettle black...), you could have searched and saved everyone a few minutes of their life.

I'm impressed you can defame me in Italian, if only you knew as much about a car in general you wouldn't have to ask "why don't people like aftermarket lugnuts? does the supercharger reduce gas mileage? tC w/ factory supercharger vs. RSX, who would win?" and other beaten to death questions.

Well at least you attempted to sound worldly It's actually portuguese! You see that's the problem with America now-a-days. Everyone is ALWAYS looking for the shortest/easiest way to do anything. Did it really hurt anyone to take (max) 2 minutes out of their/your, busy day to help a fellow TC owner. You are the only one complaining. Also, I belong to other message boards, and the search function isn't alwasy the same. Some are more helpful than others. Seeing how I am new here, and seeing how this forum caters to the car that I bought, I took a wild guess and said to myself "I bet there are people here who could help me out with my questions". Also, seeing how this is a message board, I took another wild guess and said to myself "I bet can interact with tons of other people that same the same interest that I myself have. I can leave message, and someone will answer because that's one of the main reasons any individual joins a forum".

BTW, this is italian : Va fanculo finocchio, succhia il mio cazzo ricchione!

I knew it was portuguese. Well, I knew it wasn't Spanish (which I happen to speak), but was close. Babelfish told me it was Portuguese.

As far as the stock tires go, they don't suck unless you race your car, or get aftermarket wheels and realize how much better your new tires are than stock tires.

Also, I agree with Rivulent about reposting this question, but at the same time feel that (s)he could have voiced his/her opinion in a different way.

OK so the TC-supercharged vs RSX-S was the worst post I had seen in a while...

but ohterwise, lay off it. It is ok to post something answered before... maybe someone new will answer on old question, especially such an opinionated question...

Besides, gives someone like myself stuff to answer while bored at work :-)

The RE-92's are not the best tire you could find, by far. The RE-950's give better grip, less noise, better wear, and cost less (according to TireRack.com).

They put the same ____ty tire on the WRX's and Lexus IS300 for some god ofel reason. Still trying to figure out why.

Best advice is to wear the 92's out quickly but carefully (they don't hold very well around turns) and slap something cheeper and with better performance on there.

Just my observations

nothing for nothing, but how can you say we (americans) are always looking for the shortest/easiest way to do anything when you didn't take the 2 seconds it would require to use the search feature. perhaps you should stop for a second, and think before you post a flame to someone for doing the exact thing you did.

but to answer you question, no they don't suck, but they aren't the greatest. i wouldn't buy them after the stock tires are worn out

Ahh, I didn't use babelfish and I recognized some words from what little italian I know. If it was spanish i would have picked up on it a lot easier .

Well, I did come off more harsh then I probably should have, however my point remains the same. It's hypocritical to call me lazy when you could have searched, as Soul has said. I'm just flustered to come on and see 6 of your posts on the same screen, with questions that have been beaten to death. I usually don't reply "omg why'd you ask that" because usually it's just one person, they realize what they have done, and stop.

My official response should have been and now is:

Welcome to the boards. tCs are great, and their tires aren't bad, however not worth the price when you go to get new tires in 25-30k miles (or 40-48k km, I'm assuming you're not American since you talk down to us). Please use Search before posting a question, it can save you and others time.

It's cool man, and thankyou for re-evaluating your previous statements. BTW, babelfish is a poor translator for slang/curse words. Any online translators really won't help in that sense.

they're round, they're rubber, and they cover the wheels. I don't have high expectations for OEM rubber.
