Well from what i have read the toyota auto trannys have a plate for reverse and it will only put the car in reverse if under a certain speed, I think 1.2 mph. I also have a 2003 dodge neon and my g/f did the same thing to it on accident and we called the dealer and they said if the trans didnt fall out then its ok. So in other wards i think your ok bro

Default Toyota tranny...

The automatic transmissions by toyota are designed to protect against such operator errors. Even you downshift all the way or throw it in reverse... it wont go to that gear till a certain speed is reached. As stated above... if you didnt leave your transmission behind you on the street... you are good to go.

^^^^^^^^^^^^not the smartest thing to do: drinking, getting high and then driving.

If the torque converter wasn't locked you're fine. If it was, it probably would have shattered and made a horrendous noise. I think toyotas now have electronic management of the transmission that doesn't lock the torque converter until its up to about highway speeds. When that torque converter isn't locked, there is actually no physical connection between the engine and the tires - just transmission fluid swirling around the vanes of the impeller. If you do that very often you *might* aerate your transmission fluid and make it foamy to where it won't work as well as it should, but from a single incident I wouldn't worry about it. I don't know if its easy to check the transmission fluid on a tC or not, but if you can you might check it. If it is not foamy and has no burnt smell to it you are completely fine.

If it is foamy, change it out and drive more carefully. If it has a burnt smell, you have a much more serious problem that probably requires a professional.

i totally feel you on this. i had never lost anyone from an accident, but i did get hit by a driver who was stoned and high this past summer. i can't explain how angry i was; but your anger must be at least twice of mine since you lost family.

Yeah me and some friends were off the side of the road looking at something and we almost got ran over by a drunk driver. We chased the car down, and my friend kicked a huge dent in her rear fender.

yeah, screw drunk and high people who drive. i wouldn't car if it was a fellow scionist or not. i'd kick'em in the nuts if they hit/almost hit me. and if they didn't have nuts, i go find something of theirs with nuts and kick THAT in the nuts.

Ok. Got my tC now. And yes, it is easy to check the transmission fluid. A dipstick right in the front of the engine compartment, doesn't get any easier than that. Check it, if its not foamy or not burnt, you're in the clear.
