This argument is pointless. What people need to understand is that in a situation where the ABS actually gets used, there is not enough time to make a decision about feathering or mashing the brake. ABS isn't something that activates whenever you are slowing down for a light or a corner. It activates only in emergencies. And you know what else gets activated during an emergency situation? Human reflexes. When a driver pulls out in front of you or a child runs into the path of your car, all thought goes out the window. You mash and hope for the best. You don't even have time to analyze the situation until after it's over already.

So to anyone who has ideas about feathering the brakes to stop sooner, trust me, it's not going to happen when you have to make a real emergency stop. Your foot is going to hit the floor and your ABS is going to do its work. The whole reason ABS was designed is because drivers are not capable of controlling their braking during an emergency. Engineers understood the natural reflex of mashing the pedal in an alarming situation, and have designed a system to eliminate the negative effects of mashing.
