Default There's DCH Toyota for you...

...I went to DCH Toyota in North Brunswick, New Jersey, because my HVAC lighting went out (i have an 07). So the guy gets in the car, and turns on the lights and goes "oh i see you have red interior lights"...i was like "yeah....and?" he said "that voids the warranty and there's nothing we can do." and i said "that had nothing to do with the HVAC" he said "doesn't matter. voids warranty." so now i know which dealership im gonna burn down.

AND TO TOP IT OFF... Last and i mean LAST oil change they did, they left the oil cap on my heat shield....really....please tell me that there are SOME mechanics that aren't THIS stupid...

EDIT: Oh, and how much would it be for me to get it done WITHOUT warranty?

I'm not going to do that since im going to another dealership that can do it, but im just curious.

prolly not a whole side...for an electrician, he may look at it for free......but yeah..dont go to them...if you have to, then show them the paper work stating that they have to prove that your lights caused the problem...

That's the breaks when you mod.
As for the oil cap, I swear it's a club that these guys belong to.
I think it's "we serve these lazy people so ha!"

they have to prove your mods caused the damage in order to deny warranty work

When you say red interior lights, do you mean just he rest of the lights, of have you had an led swap done? If you had the leds changed out, and the hvac lighting went out, then I can see them questioning the cause. There is a slight chance that you modding it can cause the issue that you are talking about if you accidentally break the wrong trace. However, a cool tech probably would have given it the benefit of the doubt since that issue is common on the 07's, so it isnt like it is the first time it has happened.

RED INTERIOR LIGHTS = 9" LED bars that I put under my dashboard to light up the footwhells.

Wow. What do you have it tapped into? Directly to the battery?

No. I put 3 LED dots in the cubby hole and spliced the wires from that light. But i think what im meaning to ask is...

....ARE ALL DEALERS THIS SHADY?

OR CAN I FIND ONE THAT ACTUALLY DOESN'T VOID THE WARRANTY?

That is pretty crappy of them. Like I said, I can understand questions if you actually work on the HVAC board itself and it breaks, but they are being ridiculous.

One option is to look for an 07 or 08 HVAC out of salvage. Car-part.com is your friend there. The risk is that it will fail if it has the same issue. If you get one out of an 08, you shouldnt have to worry. You can usually find one for about $100 used.

But I would first just find a different dealer and push to have it warrantied.

Of course, that is only if you in no way tapped into any wires that feed the HVAC, but you said you didnt, so I would find another dealer and get it warrantied.

One observation here...
IN the threads I've read with similar issues, all of the posters have done the LED mod.
Now, would you not think that a bit coincidental?
I mean, how many people have had this issue without the mod's?

A new HVAC part costs $600.+labor

It said that on the final invoice, under my warranty, which was for free.

Initially the service writer told me, "If you have a modified radio or MP3 hooked up, it'll void the warranty."
My car is stock.

take your lights out and goto differant dealership.........man LED strips are not going to do anything to the car.........now if you modded the HVAC then I would have to say you would be out of luck, but wow what a jerk of a dealership.

wow thats pretty ridiculous. I got everything hooked up directly to my battery, better not get warrenty problems. I'd take the LEDs out or atleast disconnect them and have a dealer check it out.
