Thinking of buying an '06
So I was thinking of getting a 2006 tC in the very near future. With the '07s coming out in a few months I figured I could get a good deal.
After checking with Scion's official web site I worked out that my monthly lease payment would be about $252 for 36 months. This is with delivery, tax, title, ect. I'm aware of other minimal costs as individual dealers are concerned.
I go to a dealer and gives me $337 a month. I just sort of chukled and said if there was anything he could do with that price. He then proceeded to explain that there was no way he could lower that. He tells me that other dealerships price their cars a little higher on purpose so they CAN come down in price. But Scions are already priced at exactly what you're going to get it for.
Is he full of it or what? Is this supposed to be a good deal for a $17,000 vehicle? And why such a difference in price from online to in-person?
Thanks

I'm definitly searching around elsewhere. I just don't understand the jump in price from online to showroom.
With reguard to Pure Price why advertise one thing and then be offered something totally different?

Did the salesman run your credit?
with regards to leasing, your FICA score determines everything. You may have overestimated your credit on the internet, and the salesman may have underestimated your credit. Which would account for the big price swing.
I had checked my FICA score myself and it rated Very Good by Scion's standards. The dealer I saw never checked. But I thought all estimates were based on having a good credit score anyway. An $80 difference per month in price seems a bit extreme.
I don't know. It's just frustrating expecting to be able to afford something and then having some other price dropped in your lap and told too bad we can't budge.
Oh well. That's life.

Otherwise, they will pencil high (hoping you are high) with the assumption that it is a lot easier to move someone down in price. If they don't want to work with you, find another dealer. Call them up, tell them your FICA, and ask what the payments are w/zero down and no trade.
Be specific, you've left a lot of details out of your harrowing tale here.
heh I know I sort of jumped the gun here but I was just seeing what, if any, sort of pricing other people have had.
That original pricing I got was with $1000 down, 12,000 miles, no trade.

That's what I thought. But he asked and I assured him I was looking for a lease.
Another strange thing. If you go to Scion's site and work out a payment plan, the difference between a buy and a lease is only like $2 - $4. Litterally. It doesn't make sense. If you work out their monthly payment for a LEASE, at the end of the 36 months it comes to the total cost of the car. If that's the case you might as well finance. Something's screwy somewhere.

Also, some dealers put strange things in leases. I just went over my finace's sister's Titan lease and great googley moogley did she get ripped. $4800 bucks for a "Rental Fee"! Just because there's pure pricing doesn't mean that some dealers aren't going to justify fees like that one.

$4800!?!?! Rental Fee!?!?! Oh man.
The internet is simply a guide. What you get in the dealership is what is real. Bottomline, when in doubt get a second or third opinion. General rule of thumb: If it happens once, it could just be an accident. If it happens twice it could be a trend. If it happens three times, it's evedince.
