Default Tint or Sunglasses?

IMO I think tinting is stupid. Although your side and back windows are tinted, most people don't have their front window tinted, thus you will still need sunglasses when it is really bright out because you are looking out of your front window 90% of the time anyways. So if you have sunglasses on and you look out your side windows it is more tint than you needed in the first place. Ok, so some of you tint for privacy, why do you need privacy? What are you doing in you car that requires going beyond your state law and puts you at risk of getting a ticket? Why do you want to make it harder to see at night? I think you are more at risk of hitting someone because you couldn't see in your blind spot or that person who accidentally forgot to turn on their lights. Personally I think that tint takes away from the good looking wheels and body of the car because people are just looking at your tint. Tinting also is harder to clean, scratches more easily and only lasts 5 to 10 years and then it starts bubbling up. I would rather have a dark pair of sunglasses that can make it seem like you have tint all around you when you want it and not have to worry about the problems with tint. Post your opinion.

In my case, I'm getting tint to protect the inside of my car from fading and to keep my car from heating up when its sunny. I think tint is pretty useful.

I tinted mine for two main reasons. One being appearance and the other to keep some of the sun and heat out of my car here in the desert.

To answer some of your questions. I have no problem seeing out of my tinted windows with sunglasses on or at night. I don't like people being able to see into my car so easily and I don't plan on keeping this car 5-10 years. I think the idea of comparing window tint to sunglasses is rediculous.

I think tinting instantly makes the car look better. I also like it just because it makes it harder to see into your car. Just because someone wants privacy doesn't automatically mean they are doing something they shouldn't be. If you think it's stupid, that's fine, don't put tint on your car. There are lots of other things that tint does, like keeps the glare out of the side of your eyes, and helps cut down on mirror glare at night. If you go too dark, it can be hard to see at night, but nothing impossible to drive with (I used to have my vehicles tinted at 5% and drove them fine at night, the tC is at 17% all around).

Did I mention it makes it harder to see into your car in a parking lot? So if you left that cd out in the seat, the guy who wants to steal it won't break your window because he can't tell exactly what's in there.

It's not 100% of protecting your eyes. I bet if you ask around with people who have their's professionally tinted, it's going to be for looks a majority of the time.

I say both, then again I have very sensitive eyes. I have my whole car tinted, including the entire front windshield, and I still wear sunglasses. And I agree with what many have said here- tint really helps protect your interior.

I have a solution that will make everyone happy, if you don't like tint, then don't tint your windows - so simple it is almost genius.

Tint protects your interior, keeps a low profile from would-be thieves that can otherwise see everything you have in your car. It looks good in most people's opinion. It keeps your car much cooler in the summer. You don't get a tan on your left arm but not on your right if you drive a lot, not to mention it makes your A/C feel a lot more effective becuase it's cooler while you're driving. But hey, you don't like it so I guess we should abolish it and all wear sunglasses... and for the record, I rarely wear my sunglasses during the day in the car becuase the amount of light that is allowed inside the vehicle is far less with tint than without even if your "front window" is not tinted.

Many reasons why Tinting is better than sunglasses

I live in south Florida, tints help keep out the heat,
Yes you do need privacy, what if you want to pick your nose while driving, I dont want people pointing at me and saying ewwwwwwww!
Also some nights me and my girl likes to go by the beach and make love. (This is the best coupe for sex) tints really help keep perverts from taking a peek!

I'm planning on tinting the front window. might be too risky, but I'll see!

1) Normal autoglass, including the windshields on all Scions, blocks UV allready - it's part of the spec.

2) One can 'tint' to block infrared (the "heat" part of sunlight) without going to a dark tint. My house had UV and IR blocking windows all 'round and it wasn't dark at all (IIRC the film was 87%). The difference before and after installing that film was a LOT (it also kept inside heat from going out in winter, which was a bonus).

3) One can take their dark glasses OFF at night.

Aside from the practical matters, like concealing what's inside the vehicle from prowlers, a dark tint is there for looks more than anything else. A proper light tint will filter UV and IR just fine...

Well said. I personally don't like tint, it is a matter of personal preference for looks.

Personally I think both. I had limo tint on my old car, plus my Oakleys. At night time it was impossible to see out my windows so I would have to roll them down. But then again I live in Vegas where it gets 115+ in the summer, with no humidity. The sun light is above a 10 on the uv scale.

I must admit if I lived in Vegas, Arizona, etc. I would be more inclined to have heavy tinting.

Default tint !!!!

living in So. Cal....you need it with that hot sun...and especially if you drive to Las Vegas, you need it when you go through Death Valley...it overall keeps the car cooler inside and also burglers cannt see what is inside. Ofcourse the other hand is, that it is illegal to have your front passenger and driver side windows tinted. I do have them on my TC and on my previous car. I have only had one problem, and that was when I went to san diego for the first time with my windows done, and a cop pulled me over. But I paid the fine, they closed my case, and believe me, its still well worth it to have the windows tinted !!!!
