Default Tips on polishing my ride

I have had my '08 for almost a year now without a wax. I know I should be shot, but driving in NY every day, 40 miles back and forth is just not worth waxing it every month. I figured now is a good time before the winter months pound my car again.

What do you guys suggest to use to make my baby new again? I know a lot are going to say clay bar and wax after, but is there a better way or even faster. Ive seen this liquid clay bar being advertised, but I'm not too sure about it.

Any suggestions?

A full year w/o wax and you're still looking for an easy way out? Either take the hit and do it right or pay someone else to do it right for you, don't take shortcuts because you'll just have to redo it later when you're not satisfied with the results. No need for monthly wax, I only do it quarterly.

Well I did some studying on these forums after I posted and I read that you should not do a thing to your car before 20k miles. Not sure how true this is or what it does, but in my case I was just lazy and did not do a thing to my car after I purchased it.

After reading a few hundred posts, it does look like claying then waxing is the way to go. I have a ton of bumps over my entire car, especially after a road trip to Vermont over the spring(bugs!!), and it seems the clay will pick up these bumps and make the car smooth to the finish.

Anyone else clay their car, and if so, do you usually wax right after?

You went twenty thousand miles w/o treating your car's finish?

Why?

I want to know who on here said that you should wait 20K to wax your car, that is just silly i've heard of people waiting 2 months but I think even that is unnecessary.

Wash your car very well with microfiber sponges, then clay bar it, wax it right after and only use microfiber.

Any suggestions on a wax. I am going to grab Meguires clay bar kit tomorrow, but I need a good wax to finish it off.

Meguiars is the only way to go :D first you need to wash your ride, then clay it to remove the oxidation and blemishes. After that you need to polish it with a DA polisher or you can do it by hand your choice. Next wax and your car should look like brand new.

^^this should help

Wash,Clay,Polish,Wax........do not go a year between doing this.....paint will not last long and still look good.......washing and claybar are important before polishing and waxing other wise you are just putting polish into the contaminated paint and that is not gonna do any good......use a orbital buffer to polish and wax and use a good product like Meguires or Griots.

how much money do you want to spend? My car shines way better then a new one off the lot..

if you have the time do this

WASH
CLAYBAR and don't use the liquid crap it will not pull out what the real deal will
REWASH
POLISH see if a friend has a polisher doing this by hand does nothing, you have to produce friction and heat up the clear coat to work properly
GLAZE
WAX or SEALANT

I like Wolfgang,Pinnacle, DP , and poorboys products

i detail part time and made an extra 40k last year

So far I spent $36 on Meguirs clay kit, polish and cleaner wax. I will try everything by hand the first time, and probably pick up a DA polisher down the road.

I will also post pics of before and after shots, although my car right now shines pretty good considering I haven't done anything in almost a year.
