Toyota Tech was told @ tC tech class that TRD S/C actually,
Now there is no way i can back this up with fact other then on my word to you all as an honest Man.. so you can either belive me or not its up to you.. so here it is...
Anyhow, I use to work for Miller Toyota in Manassas, VA in the shop, and i know alot of the techs there still. I was talking with one of them who had just gotten back from the Tech courses that familiarize the techs with the new Toyotas/Scions that come out on a mechanical/maintence level and I inquired to the TRD S/C and he told me that the Course instructor told them that the TRD S/C was indeed rated at 200hp but infact was underated and about 250hp in reality. Now this tech is not some dumb ___ kid whos just trying to be in the Fast and Furious Lie about everything crowd and frankly he could care less.. He just gets paid to fix and maintain the cars, so I believe him for he has no reason to lie. I do remember somebody else on this bored who had experience with the S/C tC and said that he felt that the car was closer to 250 as well from his experience with the ride in the car. That I cannot back up either but it seems to be consistent with the information that I have recieved from the Tech.. So anyhow.. my point is that A.) The car is apparently undertated @ 200hp and is really closer or at 250 with the S/C. B.)If this is true, then the Power output should be able to easily be increased by additional tuning to about 275hp maybe touching 300hp with not alot of internal work done. Conisdering the Warrantied engine with the TRD S/C would really be around 250hp.. So basically thats what i have to say about it.

I heard the same thing, well not that much but around 230hp w/ SC from techs around the Norfolk area. Rather not say the dealer, cause I don't want ppl down there going up and asking is this true..lol.
It does make sense though, with a 2.4lt engine w/ FI.. seems to me it should yield around 225hp or higher. Wondering how automatic tranny drivers are going to hold up to the extra power if that is true....

I am a salesman for SCION and I have gone to the training seminars as well and just so there is no miss information out there the s/c for the tC is rated at 200 hp it is physically impossible for and s/c to boost a 160hp engine to up and over 250hp. That boost is already around 30% which is good for an s/c. If you were talking turbo it would be possible but TRD's s/c's as I understand it preform about 30% to 35% increase in power. Trying to do more than that make the s/c extremely unreliable and could cuase major damage to the engine. He may have meant it was under rated to 205hp. Any way I just posted so no one would be dissappointed with only a 40 hp bump enstead of 90 hp.

perhaps its not being underrated..maybe Toyota is taking a new approach, and giving a figure of 200HP because that its what dynos will show as the WHP.
that would definately justify all the different ratings that all these people are getting, but still 200 being the main one stated
Maybe, JUST MAYBE!

Maybe for insurance purposes, I have already talked to a few people, and their insurance compaines told them, if they got the s/c they wouldn't cover the car any longer, even though it is going to be a factory opition.
So maybe they are saying 200hp to try to get more insurance companies to cover the car with the s/c

TRD SC for 1ZZ was supposed to give 160hp vs. 130hp stock
In reality that's how it looked:
Stock whp: 105-108
SC whp: 165+ for 5-speed
so the boost was very close to 60%
I had an automatic, and that's how my dyno with SC looked like:
http://zoltiz.com/trix/dyno.gif - that's pretty much barebone SC with no add-ons like small pulleys, exhaust, a/f controllers.

where would the supercharger put the tC as far as torque goes?
perhaps our little hatchie could keep good time with or even beat the srt-4 ?
if thats the case i might have to re-consider that manual tranny.

its a vortec supercharger. IT CAN PUSH MUCH MORE THAN %30-35 increase for sure!! wether internal parts in the motor can handle that- i dont know.
when some people are sayign its actually 250 or what not, you will never know if they are being told whp numbers or crank. so if it was 250 at the crank whp would be around 220 which is what alot of rumors were before so that would make complete sense. but theres no way it can be 250 at the wheels because that would be 270 at the crank with just a bolt on SC which is not possible. that would be a 100hp SC and would have to be runnign like 9 psi or more which would not be reliable.
tC whp is 140 in order to have a supercharger thats putting down 220whp/250chp thats a 80whp gain from a SC which is possible but that would make the tC SC the most powerfull SC system TRD has ever developed. which i doubt will be the case.
that 250 number could be- would the SC is possible of when increasing psi. but it is highly doubtfull that 250 is in fact the real crank hp numbers it will put out. if it is, then expect this SC to be very expensive because it would be TRD best SC ever released.
in reality, based on other TRD chargers this one will give 40-60 max. so say it puts out 60whp
tC= 140whp + 60whp SC= 180whp tC/ 200horse power to the crank
if this SC really in fact turns out to give any more than 60hp its going to be much to expensive and would no longer make a tC a god deal. final price would be right with a brand new N/A rsx type S

what company do you know that quotes whp? and even at 250 crank hp, i would think that the boost would have to be kinda high.....i don't think the toyota wants to warranty something like that, especially with the market that they are going after to drive this car. same reason they probably will never come out with a turbo. us kids won't take car of it. plus, remember the supcharger will be factory warrantied....5 year or 60000 miles. but, then i could be wrong, maybe superchargers can get those numbers without out making a lot of boost..dunno.

Like I said guys, I dont know for sure and I agree that nobody will until the system is released and is dynoed. I beilieve that 230-250CRANK hp is very feasible and that would put the WHP at 200-225 so we will just have to see. My intention with this post was just to let u know that those who felt the TRD S/C was kinda week would see that its very comparable to other sytems that will surely be on the market, but this system will carry the factory warranty backing which I think is the obvious choice unless you have the money not to worry about blowing up your engine using somebody elses system. The reasoning behind under rating the output is also obviously due to Insurance.. I mean its a two door coupe, and with the addititon of the S/C that would definatley make paying or even getting insurance coverage on a brand new car for certian age brackets either very very expensive or impossible. In addition, the statement made regarding the effeicency of this S/C being a vortech in relation to the other systems used by TRD, namingly the Eaton/roots style, well yes this would be the best S/C system that TRD has used when compared to the other systems. better design and capible of flowing more air easier. I just wonder if an Aftercooler/Intercooler kit will be available... from somebody if not TRD...
My guess is that with all that power, the brakes/suspension system will be overwhelmed. Plus the number floating around for the SC put it at about 3K-4K installed. I'd go for a type-s in that case, considering the changed they made for 05.

Plus the new RSX looks even more like a Civic than before.
If you want an RSX, go for it. I'm happy with my tC (and glad nobody will ever confuse it with a Civic.)
I really doubt that at most 250hp would be able to overwhelm the suspension ect.. at most u would largely benefit from adding in a good Limited Slip Diff. I mean think about the power numbers that most of these aftermarket Turbo Kits and other Superchargers are going to be laying down and 250 is really not alot in comparison to other kits im sure to hit the market in My opinion... mind u that 250 is a very highball number for this S/C but im refering to an at Most type situation..
