Trading in the tC
NOOOOOO!
Well, ok. If you really must. DON'T trade-in your car. Always sell... You'll loose a lot of cash if you trade it in. Besides, this is a hot car right now, and you should have a buyer in no time!

Yeah, I'm looking to trade in my tC as well. It's a good car but I want something with more power... plus I wanna try driving stick instead of Auto. I went to numerous delearships, and depending on which one you go to, they will give you between 12-15k pending condition of your car. What a total rip. I'm going to try to sell it myself. I have an automatic with extended warranty and scion security. How much should I sell it for then? I paid 20.5k after tax and all other fees.
you should never expect to get your tax and licence back. EVER. the government gets to keep that money. That is why a good down payment would be the ammount necessary to cover the tax and fees.
that being said, yes, it is a rip. But, the dealerships are actually in business to make money. I know it come to you as a shock but, i assure you, it is true. If you really want to get the most back for you car you NEED to sell it in the private market. If you purchased the extended warranty you can sell that to you perspective buyer for any ammount you want. I think you may also be able you get a pro rated return from the dealership on the extended warranty in some cases.
I would say that to expect the dealership to give you any more that 14K is kinda asking for too much. It is a mute point when you can sell it for more to many willing parties.

I just traded in my 2005 xB w/ Leather interior, spoiler, CAI, Alloy wheels, sport pedals, scion Alarm system, 3100 miles, and they gave me $14000 on a trade for a tC!!! I still owed $17700 on it so I took a big hit!! but who cares I wanted the tC that bad.
