Default TRD exhaust kit recall?

The dealer called my wife yesterday to finalize all of the accessories she wants and told her that Toyota had stopped installing the exahust kit on the tC because they found out it didn't meet CARB emission standards. He said Toyota is in redesign and will issue a new kit later. If she installs it at that time, it will only be covered by the TRD warranty not the B2B Scion. Price is also subject to change, and you know which direction that will go.

Anyone else heard this about the exhaust kit?

This has been posted before. You're information is slightly different, but I'm not confident it's correct (not doubting you, just the dealer.) I have not heard that the exhaust is recalled, just that they've stopped selling it for the time being. It could be that it didn't have a CARB certificate, much like the intake. Lots of people have already had them installed, so I'm sure they're covered under the TRD and Scion warranties.

The cold air intake is still up in the air ,AEM is in a legal battle for the C.A.R.B. cert. they have to get that done before it can be released , The TRD exhaust should getting back into the parts system in the next few weeks . There are still a few spot shortages on accessories but we have not had to much of a problem getting them in or keeping them in stock. Although we do stock a lot more accessories and preformance parts than most dealers do.

Since I had some time, I spoke to Mike on the Scion chat. He was not aware of any problems with the TRD exhaust except that it is behind schedule due to the more than expected orders.

Have to agree. Sometimes I wonder if they are really working at another job and then get a "beep" that someone has a ?. Then they window over to the Scion screen and start responding to us.

But it seems like even the different Toyota/Scion regions/dealers get different info.

Thanks Jason,

I did an "exhaust"-ive search, but since you can't limit the search parameters in any way, I gave up after slogging through umpteen unrelated threads. I guess when I said "recalled" I meant they were no longer accepting orders for the option and not authorizing B2B coverage if a customer bought the part elsewhere and had it dealer installed. You just get the warranty that comes with the part. Our salesman did go on to say that they were redesigning the part to meet the 50-state emission standards, but that could be b.s. too. He had no idea about when it will be available or how much the option would cost at that time.

I didn't mean they were going to bring in vehicles with installed units and swap them out for the redesigned part. Sorry if anyone was confused by that. Yeah, you will have to take this post with the caveat that our dealer has been pretty low-key about the whole transaction and haven't done their homework about the car. Every time we have a question, they always have to get back to us, they can't answer most things on the first pass. It's probably because the midwest was one of the last regions to come on-board with Scion. I'm still waiting for the shoe to drop that she has side airbags and ordered the self-dimming mirror option. So far not a problem though.
