someone in some other thread that i can not track down said that they were going to try to see if they can get the free filters and oil for the oil change so they can do it themselves from the dealer. Does anyone know where this thread is or the outcome.

A) This thread is NOT about getting free filters and oil form the dealership for the three free ones.

B) In that thread (since I was on it) no one answered the person posing that question.

C) Most likely you cant get it because it'll have a disclaimer saying oil change must be done at dealership and not transfarable for product or money.

Thanks for a thread hi-jacking!

Hey BamBam (do I know you from Guitar Forums?), maybe
we should research who really makes the TRD filter and just
buy the original. I'm almost positive that neither TRD nor
Toyota make the oil filters. There are huge manufacturers
that specialize in that, and they just slap whatever name on
the filters they are asked to!

As for what makes an oil filter performance, do some googling
on it. There is a guy who's something like a fluid engineer and
he's discected dozens of filters to see what the differences
are.

The better filters are the ones with synthenic filter material,
and lots of it. Plus a durable non-jamming valve setup. Also
a larger capacity doesn't hurt any.

Mobile 1, and K&N, you pay for the name, but there is
quality behind them too. I'd see if you can find that application
somewhere. If not, the STP and Champ and decent upper
mid quality oil filters.

I hope this helps out some.

i read somewhere that STP is going down hill in quality. their filter for my maxima is 2/3 the size of the stock nissan filter.

Maybe if STP changed who they get their oil filters from. They *were* made by one
of the better manufacturers. But they could pay anyone to paint it blue and put STP
on the side.

If I can get a used TRD oil filter, I'll take it apart and compare it to known
manufacturers to see who really makes it, and how it stacks up the the higher end
synthetic material filters.
