TRD turbo kit.
I have an article from an OptionWagon magazine doing a comparison of the turbo vs. Blitz s/c. The turbo kit does get the car up to 146hp. THe s/c on the other hand will do about 130hp. I am not sure if a turbo is the way to go or if that particular kit is perfect. I have to think the motor will have to be slightly built to hold those numbers. The TRD kit costs about $5 grand in Japan. Someone said they could sell it in the states for 3500. How could this person eat the difference? BLitz on the other hand will set you back up to 3500 dollars antway. There is an aftercooler available for this kit. TRD does come with an intercooler by the way. OptionWagon liked the Blitz kit for it's easeir drivabilty and adjustment for different s/c engagment throttle positions. Not sure what else will be i store for our cars in the way of forced induction, but I will be sure to lower the compresson. I don't plan on blowing the headgasket. I hope everyone also uses their noodle as well. I would hate to see threads about people granading engines.

Good luck on getting the TRD kit. Unless the cost has gone up option wagon sales the Blitz for $2800. So would that extra money for the TRD be worth it while you could still add a header & exhaust to the blitz?

I've been told by someone who works at TRD USA, that the bB turbo kit comes with a whole engine rebuild kit (pistons, rods, gaskets, etc, even an intake manifold and whole new ECU.) And it's currently going for $7,000 USD. He said it gives you 50 extra wheel horsepower and you boost it at about 7 lbs.
Now thats what I was told, and I have no way to confirm this.

Yes, That's wheel horsepower. And a rebuilt engine. you're probably gaining 60HP at the crank.

everything on a scion is gonna be a joke if people keep looking @ the overall HP number... you gotta look at it as overall pecentage gains... if it's puttin out 50hp to the wheels that's over a 50% gain which is unheard on almost any other other car out there... and if you look at the bright side you still have your warranty...
Honestly, if I had the money I would buy it. 50% gained from a turbo at a measily 7 lbs of boost is a lot, especially on a 1.5L that weighs only 2400 Lbs. If I am not mistaken, the Greddy Turbo kit on the 350Z gets you to what 350 Wheel Horsepower @ 7Lbs of boost? 70 Hp gained on a 287 hp car (25% hp gain) and the car weighs like 3,000 LBS. I think. Plus you get peace of mind that the engine won't blow/detonate, and if it does Toyota still covers it. THATS A DEAL! Try that with just a turbo from your local turbo shop. ____ Greddy, APEXi, Blitz, etc... can't give you that much of a deal.
Just my .02 cents.

if your looking to get the most out of your xa/xb, if you plan on going the FI route, build the engine from the inside out, otherwise its gonna go kaboom. if you have money for a 7K turbo kit, you might as well spend the extra money and get the internals done. save yourself the extra headache, and then push up the psi :D
well, i think toyota's concern with turbo (notice they don't have any turbo cars, nor do they offer a TRD turbo), is that warranty would be an issue. most people don't know how to take care of a car with turbo. so, they would have more warranty issues. just my .02 though.
xtra hp is just the ability to keep up with traffic as far as I'm concerned and a s/c will be my option. I just want a little kick from the motor. 30 hp is alot when you think about the slowness of our cars already. It will seem very fast and will be much quicker and better at passing cars and shoooting thru traffic.
