Default Trying to replace my own fender

I have a minor dent on my R/S fender from a lady backing into my car at a 90 degree angle, and two mysterious holes toward the top of my fender that looks like somebody took a dent pulley to it. Long story short, I went to a body shop and they wanted $1,000 to replace the fender including painting and everything. The body shop looked at it and there is no other damage.

I can get a new fender online for $300 shipped in my color, should I try to replace it myself? Will the color look off? Or should I just spring for the $1,000 and get it done properly?

it won't be the exact color because by now your car would have fadded and not be exactly as it was when it came from the factory. and also, do you know who is painting it and how well a job they will do? what if it starts flaking on you in a month or two?

i would buy the fender unpainted, and have the bodyshop paint and install it to match, should be a reasonable price, and be done right.

Ouch. $1000 does not necessarily equate to a good job. It depends on who will be doing it. Just get it unpainted online and ask for a referral for a body/paint shop. Ask in the Northeast regional section if somebody there knows a good shop. good luck!

(Sorry OP: 'sup Vince! news is your car's finished! can't wait to see it! )

I have the same problem like you do...body shops ask for 1000 to fix my fender! I was like F THAT! I may do what the others guys here are suggesting, by buying a new fender and let the body shop paint it. It should be a couple 100buxs cheaper then paying a grand lol.

Get it online and get it painted on the car from a referenced painter x5 or w/e

Its sooo easy to put a fender in dont worry about that part, the only thing the paint shop could help with would be lining it up

Mainly quoting tcdaily, and for those who has experience with installing a fender. Could you be a bit more specific on how to install it? I am in the exact situation, and I don't want to pay in thousands for that. But, I've never taken apart a car before (other than those simple stuffs like headlights).

Any tips would help me to get it installed myself, pictures would be even better!

Thanks alot!

I haven't done it but I did come across this instructions to install a vertical door kit (c/o verticaldoors.com). It includes steps to remove the fender. Hope it helps.

http://www.verticaldoors.com/_produc...structions.pdf

And yeah, $1G = rape. lol!

I have a fender that would need paint for $120 shipped, or if you want, I can talk to my body shop & see if they'll paint it with your paint code. Shouldn't be more than $225 for the fender + paint + shipping. Install's easy. I can take my fenders off & put them back on in less than 10 mins. But wait....R/S fender? Drivers side? Passenger side? (I have both sides regardless.)

The body shop you're going to is trying to rape the crap outta you. $1000?! That's ridiculous. I got my car 2-toned with House of Kolor on top for $500.

This post was brought up from the dead though so I don't even know if you still need it.

I would still need it, but problem with me is that I am currently in Seattle, and will be here for a while. Any chance you might know a good guy in WA area?

Nope, but I'm saying I have a fender right now, in my possession. I can have MY body shop paint it to your paint code, & I can ship it to you & you install it yourself.

Thanks for all the helpful replies guys but my original post was in April.

I wound up getting a painted fender on eBay and did it myself. It came out ok although I wound up losing two screws and breaking one of the clips, lol. I have to take the whole thing apart again once I get the parts and time on my hands to fix it 100%, although it looks fine.
