Default Up A Mountain In A tC (56k Beware!)

Today a bunch of guys from my university's Automotive Enthusiasts club and I took a trip to Acadia National Park and Cadillac Mountain.

In total there were about 20 of us, with 14-17cars and 4 motorcycles. I can't remember all the cars, but the ones off the top of my head: my tC, two DSM TSi's (one was running 20+ lbs of boost, that thing was fast, easily 400+hp I bet), two VW Corrados (one was V6, the other had a blower), two SVTs, a 3-series BMW, a 240 (turbo), a VW wagon (turbo), an auto-x tuned Focus, a Camaro, a T-Bird, a VTec Prelude, and my favorite car, the STi. Oh, and a pimpin' Grand Marquis Station wagon to carry spectators.

On the way we stopped for food and some go-karting. A picture of some of the cars lined up at the Go-Kart place:

A pic of my tC, the Focus, and the STi at the go-karting place.

Then it was off to the State Park and Cadillac Mountain. A picture of (mostly) us in a line on the road:

Then we arrived at the State Park and hung out in the parking lot for a bit. A pic of some of our cars lined up:

A closeup of my tC in the parking lot:

Then it was off, up the mountain. Because it was very cold and off tourist season, there was practically no one there. This was great, because we got to cruise up the mountain in a hurry. It was like rally racing on pavement*. (*Note, at no time did we exceed the posted speed limit. Ever. Really. We didn't. Don't ask. Don't tell. Don't sue.)

A pic taken from the dash of my car, chasing the Carrado and Prelude:

Another pic, further up the mountain:

Finally at the top of the mountain, the 240, my tC, and the 3-series:

All in all it was a great trip. My car kept up EXTREMELY well considering most of these cars were heavily modified, and all I have on mine is the TRD exhaust. I can't wait to get my upgraded suspension, sway bar, stickier tires and... hmm... yeah maybe a blower put in.

The road up the mountain was great. Some straight-aways, some long curves in the middle of the woods, some hairpin turns on cliffs of the mountain. Tons of fun. DO IT SOMETIME!

(I'll post more pics as people who were there send 'em to me).

I appreciate the high quality pics. Use the middle (wheel scroller) button. I didn't mind scrolling.

That 240sx is _____in'! I love his HKS Drager Exhaust. The VR6 and blown 1.8L Corado's are tight cars too. Sounds like you are part of a very unique enthusiasts club.

nothing like hairpin turns. i live out in the country so i get a lot of curvy roads. nothing more fun in the world than whipping around corners. the tC has pretty good grip too. almost as good as my subaru impreza i got rid of for the tc, and it was all wheel drive.

Man I want a mountain so I can drive up it like in those luxury car commercials!!! Where the guy is like red lining it around the hairpin turns, while listening to classical music. LOL. Nice post, felt like I was there.

Haha, yeah, I think I had At The Drive-In playing most of the way up. Close enough, right?

The best part was my friend in the passenger's seat (the one who took the pics). I hadn't been to the Park before or up the road we were taking, but he had, so when we'd come to an especially bad turn he'd yell "Slow down! Slow down!"

Kind of like a watered down, "oh ____!" type of rally racing.

But yeah, the tC really showed it's prowess there. The low gearing was great. I could come up to a turn, get on the breaks, turn, get on the gas and not have to shift because I was still in the powerband.

The best part about all our cars: not a single decal, sticker, or piece of vinyl on our cars. There are a few questionable wings and a couple borderline body kits, but nothin' too rice.

The 240 is a damn nice car. I'm looking around our forums and can't find too much more about it. That thing goes though.

One time I was on I-95 going out to eat with the girl and two friends, and those two Corrados got on and right in front of me. They slowed down to a 40 mph roll and launched. I laughed and tried to keep up, but less hp + 4 people = seeyah.

Dude, you're about an hour away from the Blue Ridge Mountains. Just go west...you won't find elevation in Old Towne.

I drive up and down mountains every day going to work, the tC does very well on them. 90mph up Sandstone Mountain is no trouble.
