using synthetic
i just gave my 05 tc its 3 syn oil change using royal purple, its expensive but will save your butt if something goes wrong internally.
itd proven hp gain, i didnt think it was true, but i can actually feel the difference now, i thought it was just all bs but i actually can feel the difference.
my car only has 56k on it, its not even close to being broken in but, i think syn oil is the best thing you can do for your car.

+1 for Royal Purple synthetic. quick question, is it better to run the specs for the dead summer heat or a higher or lower weight on oil. It gets pretty hot down here, usually about 95*+ everyday.
If there is indeed a performance gain, it is a couple of hp at best.. so you didnt feel anything (you were expecting to and think you did).. the placebo effect is huge when it comes to modding cars
You cant feel a 2-3 hp gain.
But besides that, it is a great idea to run synth. I run it in all my cars. tC got it on the first oil change.

I run factory spec oil weights in everything, all times of the year, and it ranges from -25 degrees or so to near 100 here in MN.
I used to run Mobile1, but I can get RP for about the same price and run it in all my cars nowadays.

MAYBE 1 hp at the most & FYI your car is quite broken in at 56k.

Dude is perfectly fine. Yea just drain the old stuff and change the filter then add the synthectic man.
When I switched to Synthetic(Mobil 1) I felt a difference, but I don't think it was attributed to horsepower gain. Car just felt more responsive....but it could have just been in my head...
O'reilly's is running a RP oil change special.... 5 Quarts + Wix oil filter for mid $30 range. Good deal.
I've used Mobil 1 since I bought my tC in 05. Runs like a champ.
On the Acura TL-S I switch up between Mobil 1 in the winter and German Castrol in the summer.

Good ol butt dyno giving you false since of gains again. Running synthetic will make your car run smoother, but you won't "gain" hp, if anything you FREE'D up .5 to 1 whole hp at the crank.
I prefer Amsoil or Mobil1 over RP because RP is simply too expensive for what you get, and I've heard of RP loosing its performance properties after 2500 miles.
And how do you figure oil will save your butt if something goes wrong internally? If something goes wrong, it breaks, theres no saving.

My last used oil analysis with RP oil and an OEM oil filter the readings came out near perfect. Ran the oil for around 4700 miles and it looks like I can get about 5500 out of it with no loss in performance and plenty of additives left in the oil.
RP definitely does run smoother and gets up to operating temp quicker. Well worth the extra to run synthetic oil.

Running synthetic vs organic oil will help reduce wear and tear on your engine in the long run because of syhtetic oil being able to hold longer than conventional organic oil.
The horsepower gains are very small in small engines like the tC, maybe 1 or 2 hp gain at most. In a big diesel engine, maybe more because there would be more oil for the engine to have to work through.
Synthetic oil also reduces wear because it is supposed to be more effective at reducing friction, so it could not possibly get up to operating temperatures quicker, but slightly slower, depending on how hard you run your engine right after start up. Its always good to let your engine sit for a few minutes and warm up so the oil will get to operating temperature and lubricate better.
IMO, you cant feel the difference, at all, because I sure didnt. I use Royal Purple fully synthetic oil and the TRD synthetic/high capacity filter in my tC. If someone changed the oil w/o you knowing, you wouldn't even realize it.
The oil filter also plays an important role that no one mentioned. As miles go by, the filter will collect dirt/metal and begin to clog and become less effecient at allowing oil to flow through. The clogging process speeds up with adding maybe a supercharger or modifying your engine to make more power/higher revolutions. So, a higher capacity filter is usually better if you plan on exceeding the 3000 mile oil change or racing, etc.
Synthetic is best used in turbo/supercharging or high revving/racing applications because the turbo/supercharger will generate more heat and synhthetic oil is made to withstand more heat and duration than organic oil.
Using a thinner grade will help you gain hp (but again small) especially with a high reving engine. This is used by drag racers to help free up power while their machine revs down the track.
Just a little fyi, there is a special bolt you can get, a longer, stronger magnetized bolt, that some people use that claim it attracts the tiny metal fragments that fall into your oil. Idk this for sure, but throwing it out there shouldn't hurt.
I personally trust Mobile 1 and Royal Purple, but that's my opinion.
Just my 3 cents

Has anyone here have experience with both Redline motor oil and Royal Purple motor oil? I am going to switch to synthetic on my next oil change and was leaning towards Royal Purple, but no stores around me that I've been to carry the weight that I need.
