Warning
I live in CT, I was up in Wilton today and I drove past a cop doing nothing wrong. He pulled out and pulled me over. He came to the window and told me he noticed my tints and wanted to see if I had a DMV sticker stating they were legal or any other certificate stating they were legel. I told him I didnt but he was okay with that. He was a nice guy and told me he doesnt give out tickets just warnings so he went back to his car with my lisence. Came back and handed me a written warning. I have only gotten verbal warnings in the past. What I wanted to know is if anyone from CT can chime in on this and tell me if this is a FIX IT warning even though he didnt state I had to go get my tints fixed.
I've seen those before. Here's the thing with verbal warnings - they are easily forgotten about, and there is no formal record that the warning ever took place. You could get pulled over again for the same thing and you could claim you never received a warning in the first place, so this is your first time. However, a warning ticket is just a written record of the warning. This means that you won't be so lucky a second time, because they will see that you have already been warned once and they will not hesitate to give you a real ticket. The warning ticket is only available to the department which issued it, so if you got pulled over by city PD then cops in any other city will not know about it. But no, you don't need to take any action on this. It is just for the records of the issuing department.
If you get pulled over again and they check your tint you will get an actual ticket so yes its a fix it ticket, its just a warning.
Get your tint legal or risk getting an actual ticket next time.

Im not worred about paying a ticket. CT fix it warnings suspend your registration. All I need to know is that isnt a fix it warning. RodC explained it wasnt. I would like someone from CT to answer this though.
Well, I know with 100% certainty that it isn't a fix-it ticket. They are not telling you to take any action, otherwise it would not be a "warning". Real violations are either correctable or non-correctable. If you get a real ticket and the officer says it is correctable, that means you got a "fix-it" ticket - correct the violation and nothing will happen. A non-correctable violation is more serious and means you are getting penalised without any opportunity to fix the violation. This warning is something far less serious. It's just friendly advice to fix your violation before it turns into a real ticket next time.
True you dont have to do anything regarding the ticket but the cop gave you a warning basically saying next time your getting a real ticket now that the warning is in place.
Either Fix the tint and save frustration later or ride it out and hope you dont get pulled over..
More then likely the next time you get pulled over if they check and see you've been warned you are getting a ticket plain and simple..
You also may want to post in your regions forums if you want someone local to answer you

ok go back to the shop you had the tint done at or get the label off the tint that was used. if you used more then one application of tint then you are most likely illegal. but the shop will have stickers you can add to your car or have a printed cirtificate showing what tint and the % or tint that was used. if you went above the legal amount the shop would have told you they will not back you on anything if you go above it.
call your local state patrol office or what ever branch gave you the ticket and ask about if you have anything to take care of on this and if so how to go about doing it.

I live in CT as well and recieved the same thing for my old car. Cop pulled me over for having 35% tints. If a cop pulled you over in the future and ran you, that warning will appear and the cop can give you a ticket if he feels inclined. I did not fit it and drove my last car for another 2 years in the same town as the cop. In CT you have to get 50% tints on the front windows because of the solor tinting on the windows.
I would not worry to much.
As a FYI the cop toled me that I could get it fixed if I want but if I didn't and got pulled over they were most likely send me to get it tested for darkness and I could get hit with a heafty fine, I thiink he said $200 a window.
