Default Waste my money

Crappers, well as my observation proves, 89 gas dont do crap to my car . I've been using 89 on my tC since august and now, since gas prices rose, i thought i would use 87. Same exact thing, except 87 has a smoother ride. I shoulda listened to the manual instead of the dealer dude. Beware, 87 is better for tC's.

9.6:1 comp. No reason to run anything but 87. Premium fuels are not "better". They're just more resistant to detonation.

Yep, hate to break it to you. My girl friend's brother keeps putting Premium into his 04 SE-R (non spec v). He says he gets better performance from it... You should only go to the higher grade of fuels when you're raising compression, runing boost, or exotic timing.

Poor boy, some lessons aren't cheap =) Though its cheaper than my friend who learned that giving a stripper $1,000 over the course of a night doesn't make her your girl friend...(long story).

Yeah, but doesn't the manual also state oil changes at 5000 miles intervals. Bet not many people are following that one!!!

Basically the 3,000 mile oil change rule is marketing so there is more business. It's engrained in our minds now and we feel guilty or scared once we go over it extensively. tC's say every 5,000 miles. Heck, mr2 turbo's and celica all-trac turbo's say 3750 miles!
But just for a guide, don't go over what the manual says, and change earlier if you do *lots* of racing (auto-x, drag runs) and if you are towing, also if it's been almost 1/2 a year.

Personally, when my g/f hits 3,000, i will change the oil for her and put in mobil 1 super synthetic, and then change it every 5,000. On my Celica, I do 4,000.

there is nothing wronge with doing them every 5K. I just got use to the 3K in my older model cars when I lived up in Missouri and almost all the roads where dirt roads that I drove on. DId it to keep things clean and rooming smoothly. THough I admit I tend to slip some times and do them around 4K if I forget to pay attention to my miles.

As for the grade of gas. Yah no real reason to buy higher grades with our car, though I do some times put in a tank of plus once in a while to do a change.

Actually, the 3000 mile mark was really for the older mototrs that had such loose tolerances. It was also for the older oils who's viscosity would break down by the third month of use. Oil does has a shelf life whether it's being used or not. With the new, quality oil filters, better sythetics, upgraded metal compositions and tolerances, there really is no reason you can't change your oil every 6K miles unless you drive hard and create alot of unusual heat. That's cool that the owners manual tells you every 5K...man, they thought of everything.

I put Royal Purple in my tC and it's good for 15k or 12 months with filter changes at regular intervals but I'll be getting it changed every 5k while under warranty.

i say be a true sport and pull out the oil dip stick, look and smell the oil before really changing it that tells you more on how your car is running or your running your car rather than letting an odometer tell you. it doesnt say any when it comes down to it. IMO
