don't drive through water. i've had my cai installed for over 30k miles with a hydroguard pre-filter on it, and i didn't see any evidence of water in the pipe when i took the filter off to clean it. i have driven through rain, but i'm careful to avoid any puddles over 1 or 2 inches deep.

the hydroguard is a hydrophobic sock that you put over the filter to make it more water resistant. injen makes it, so you'd have to find out which size injen filter is the closest to the one you have and get the appropriate size hydroguard. many people safely run a cai without it though. you could also get a bypass valve, which should prevent hydrolock in most cases. whatever you do, just be careful on wet roads.

I had a CAI and got hydrolocked.

True it wont happen unless you go in pretty deep water but its hard to see water when your coming over a hill at 5:30 am on the way to work

To me its not worth the risk of gettin hydrolocked.

You get at the most like 8hp.

I just did a short ram and noticed no change

People say its a hot air intake but that makes no sense.

The full CAI tubing runs in the hood and gets hot also, so I dont see why people say a short ram is a hot air intake

anywho just do a short ram if your worried

You get at most 2 hp realistically

They say a short ram is a hot air intake because it draws air from the engine bay. Even the stock intake draws air from the fender well.

Niether will do much of anything for performance. They are for looks and sound.

As far as water, search. There are a LOT of threads on this.

Source? Reasoning? I know the manufacterers lie, but I think someone on here did an unbiased "intake round up test".

From what I remember, they made more then 2 hp.

Most dynos show the highest gain in hp at that rpm which is usually near redline, Engifineer has a point really, most intakes actually make you lose low end.
