how long have you had the car? i've noticed that my tC is a little harder to shift when first driving than after it is warmed up a while. even compared to my supra, it seems to grind a little...

maybe the transmission fluid hasn't warmed up yet? i wanted to wait until the summer to see if it still made noise.

If its a 'tink' noise its common on Tcs and not a problem. Drive down a street lined with close buildings and a windows down, if you can hear it more clearly and it sounds like a solid engagement of metal its just the shift linkage.

If its a grind, well thats a problem.

Ive had some strange noise when i'll drop to second gear and it sounds like a loud Breaking as if my engine was slapping the fire wall.

Only when in second gear though...there was a tiem i thought i put it in third but second and i went from like 1000rpm to about 5000 pretty quick on accident. And it made the noise again =/

I have the same issue too. First I though it was a fluk, it became more and more annoying. Brought it back to the dealer (1K miles) , they tighten a couple of bolts... problem still exist. Finally I had enough and traded it in for a 06'. The 06' don't have this issue!!

I believe that transmission fluid is especially thicker than other oils in your car. So in the winter, you'll feel those rough shifts. The problem goes away after your car is warm, and this problem doesn't usually pop up in the summer, unless there's a really chilly night.

Yeah i think it might be that. I hear the exact same noise in my 06. It seems to be louder going from first to sec. then as I go threw the gears it gets even more quiet. I think it is just the shift links.

tinking sounds are common... if you can drive smooothly then theres nothing wrong....

as a matter of fact all TOYOTA manual transmissions have that tinking sound.... i thought there was something wrong too but i checked the xB and Celica an they all make that noise...
