The place that I had my tint done at in NY was willing to give this other guy who had just gotten a ticket a receipt that said that they had removed the tint. Of course, they did not remove the tint, but he was able to submit that to the courts to get his ticket waived. His situation was different because he had a typical that blended in. However, when your dealing with a car like the Scion XB, that sticks out like a midget on a pocket bike (By the way did anyone peep that at Englishtown, NJ ) that a different story.

Well the tC will not stick out like the xB. Oh well, i am most likely gonna take the risk and get the Tint. Now i need some Info on Brands, Color, and Pricing. Then I can put this Thread to a rest hahaha :D

You know why i have my windows tinted? Not cause it makes my car look good...but because IM WHITE and i burn really easily. The tint i have blocks UV rays. Also there are some creapy truckers and other dirty men (gardeners too) in so cal and I hate having them check me out, specially a trucker who can see farther down inside the car. I just dont see why we cant have a light tint on the front.
Theres a difference in glancing to see what a girl looks like, and stairing at a chick to the point that its just creapy.

well, I have a lava box, and I put 5% everywhere, except on the driver/passenger doors, where it is 35%. legal is 50% on those windows and the 5% is okay behind the driver. I even have 5% on the windshield strip. Maybe Virginia isn't as bad as I thought when it comes to letting our rides look nice. the box looks sweet.

sorry to hear everyone elses woes.................

I think i've seen like one xB around. For some reason, a lot of people down here don't like the xB. I dont like the xB either haha. I just can't wait for the tC to come.

So still no word on Pricing, Brand, and color or Tint aye haha. ok Off to Wonderful class.

Oh yah, Muir's cool by the way.

Default How is it done?

I have never tinted my vehicle's windows before, so how is this process done? I've seen those awful cars from the 90s with the dark plastic tint peeling off, the window looking like it has purple cellophane drapery...

Is there any way to properly tint the glass once a vehicle is already purchased?

I can't remember what percentage my tints are, but they were the next darkest to limo and I have it on all side and rear windows..(7 in all: Audi A4)...which is illegal in michigan...I live just outside of detroit and I think the cops have bigger problems to deal with then tints, I haven't been pulled over in the last year and a half that I have had them.

One thing I would like to point out is.....this is done more often then people think....: If you come up with a decent excuse that your eyes are overly sensitive, your doctor may write you a note saying they recommend you have tinted windows (a few friends of mine have done this and my girlfriend is about to). This has worked too, just keep it in your car and hand it over to the cop, if he pulls you over for it.

I know of some people that actually have limo tint all the way around INCLUDING THE FRONT WINDSHIELD......of course its a yellow lambo.....and his name is Herman Moore (old receiver from the lions)

Good ol' Herman Moore. He went to UVA where he starred. Being a Maryland Terrapin fan, he was a real pain when we played.

I looked this up.. assuming the website for some little town in NY was up to date..
70% all around is what's legal in NY. Unless you have an SUV, then limo tint is legal in the rear. Here's the thing.. the xB isn't an SUV, so it's illegal anyway Might as well go all the way!

I found some 50%ish stuff online, but to buy it I have to get a big honking roll..

Definitely get it profesionally done!!! If you get dust, streaks, or have other problems when you do it yourself, you'll have to start all over, and clean it up and you might just settle for half-@ss to not have to redo it. If you get it professionally done you can tell them to redo it if it isn't done perfectly. Make sure you go to a legit place that has a guarantee in case you notice problems later. Most chains have lifetime of the car guarantees.
It usually takes a few weeks before the minor bubbles and streaks go away.

I wasn't aware that front windows couldn't be tinted here in California. I got 45% on my Camry's sides, and 35% on the back. I think the visibility is cut-down significantly in the back because it's so dark. I don't see how people can get limo tint in the back. It's too dark to see out of. I think it's best to get metallic tint. It reflects heat better and looks more like a natural glass reflection than cop-attracting darkness.[/img]

Does anyone have any pictures of Tinted cars with the Percentage rating. I went to a local tint shop, and i saw that 20% Llumar tint, and it didn't really look as dark as some made it out to be. Now the 5% looks pretty dark, but would that look nice on a black tC, also how would visability be then? But yah, just wondering if some of you can post pics of tinted cars with the percentage so i can get an idea what would look nice on a black tC.

Thanks

edit:
oh yah, and the place i went to had Pricing for 5 windows $249 for Llumar's top tint, lifetime warranty against Bubbles and Color. Seems pretty steep, but its supposedly the best???

This is odd. The way I understood it was that windshield and front windows are illegal to tint in CA because of safety concerns. That at night tints make it harder to see. *shrug*

Don't ya love how ya can buy a new bmw with dark tinted windows and super blue halogens and thats it's legal but if ya do the same thru after market to your honda it's illegal?

does metalic tint really mess up nav systems and alarms; proxies, 2 way alarms. my friends tsx manual says not to use metalic because it will mess up the nav... just wondering if it's the same for the alarms...

Just for the record, the CA tint law on that site is WAY out of date, 1987!!!!. I have my 1990 LS400 tinted 50% front, 5% backs, and none on the windshield.
The current law limits a 4" on the windshield, 70% on the front sides, and any tint on the rears.
For current regulations:

how about variable tint?

http://www.ltismartglass.com/evtp.htm

10% while driving... 100% when you get pulled over. the cop will surely see his optometrist the next day.

probably costs a bunch though.
