Default What about trading my 07' for a 02' BMW 540i?!?

Just wondering if anyone has heard anything about these? It has the 4.4 with a 6spd. Theres one for sale here locally and I was interested in it. Im kinda getting into the 4dr sports sedans. I looked up somethings and watched some videos on youtube. They sound beasty with an exhaust. Just curious. May be worth it.

European cars (BMW, Audi, Mercedes) are nice but very costly to maintain. Just consider the long run before you buy.

i used to work for a bmw/mercedes shop. they're great cars but pricey to maitain. we charged A LOT for maintenance. plus I also noticed they had a problem with they're windows rolling down. I mean if you have the cash to maintain it go for it. I'd drop a dinan turbo in there as well, it's mean as french toast!

Yea I dont know if I am worried about maintanence. Sure parts may be expensive but so are Toyota parts. Granted BMW parts are probably more. I do work at a shop and my brother is a mechanic so I dont know if I should be that worried about it. Or should I? And have you heard anything bad about the 4.4?

yea parts are going to be a little more but if you can cut the cost on labor go for it! it depends if your brother knows how to work on euro cars. how many miles does it have?

so you have an 07 and you're thinking about giving it up for an 02?? i understand it' s a BMW and has a bigger engine with more luxury; but to lose 5 years--i wouldn't.

never understood why people fall back in years just b/c the "new" car is faster and more luxurious. not to mention you end up owing more if it's not paid off.

Well its not just the motor. I was looking at getting something a little bigger. Plus the wife would like something a little bigger as well. Shes a fan of the four door. I know I am down grading in years but c'mon its a BMW. It is a lower mileaged car it has 70xxx. If my brother cant fix it then I have a few buddies with some old euros. I know there are some cons, but the combination of luxury, power and handling. I just am not sure about the TC. Dont get me wrong I like the TC very much.

I would say look for a newer sedan. Maybe try and find a nice lexus. But 5yrs is alot to give up plus its prolly like 10k more than you paid for your tC and its 5yrs older.

yeah, seriously, bmws are expensive to maintain, you think toyota parts are expensive, compared to bmw parts, they are nothing. my boss bought a used bmw 540, it drives pretty nice, but he never fixes anything on it because they all cost so much, he lost his key and it cost $180 to replace.

also, buying used cars equals buying somebody else's problems. your going to sell your car that you have owned since new for a car that is 6 years old and has been through who knows what?

also compare other things like insurance. cars that are bigger and faster and more expensive to repair and replace parts...means higher premiums...so yeah, just something to think about.

you should do it. you'll learn alot about cars by owning a 5+ year old euro car. the headaches I dealt with owning a 96 GTI, 97 A4, and 98 Passat taught me alot about car repair and car ownership in general.

i would keep the tC and only get it if you can afford to have two cars. The tC will be nice to use as a daily and it will be reliable. The BMW could be more of a weekend car.

agreed. but i also agree with HKS, but as he said "the headaches I dealt with owning a 96 GTI, 97 A4, and 98 Passat taught me alot about car repair and car ownership in general." so would it be smart to trade in your car for a car that may be problematic? (granted HKS listed VW/Audi platforms).
