Japan's moles say they've uncovered secret plans for a new pure sport coupe from Toyota, apparently based around the Scion tC. The unnamed model, due in 2006, has 2.4-liter power, like the tC, yet is good for a reputed 250 horsepower.
Toyota is aiming at Honda's stellar Integra Type R (the more exotic, faster version of America's Acura RSX). And the idea would also be to inject some extra speed and enthusiast muscle into the tC.
America will soon bid farewell to the Celica, so this new 250-hp sport coupe would be a welcome replacement. Across in Japan, the talk is Toyota would rebadge it as the eighth-generation Celica.
While the Celica as we know it is 1.8-liter, the story goes that this new model would jump up to a special high-performance 2.0-liter motor, which may be called 2AZ-GE.
What this means to you: Biggest problem with Scion? No power. Thus, this super tC sounds super-cool; let's hope it makes it into the showrooms here.

Hmm I never heard that Toyota was planning to make a 250 hp tC......I think that would shoot it out of Scion's intended price ranges though and it would have to be under the Toyota name or lexus name--- Technically the 250 hp tC + 2 doors is the Lexus IS 350 (at 306 hp) ...I would have said the IS 250 but that one is only 204 hp....

I got your back on this, Avensis, plus the cost would be too high. If they ever decide to go with something more powerful, Toyota would hopefully go with a RWD, take back some of that market ;)

They need to come out with something.
They could of came out with standard tC with 161hp and a GTS version with 250hp. If we wanted to pay more then let us. You know let us have more options.

I think for the price at what it is, it's fine.
Think of all the other options we have plus the stock HP. Pretty good deal.
If HP went up, there would be a significant price increase, and I don't even know if they would keep it on the "Scion" line.

id like to see someone swap a 3.5litre camry motor in... hell the camry is roughly ~6.2 sec 0-60 and ~14.2 1/4 mile... thats not too shabby for a 4 door 6 cyl... id like to see that motor in a tC :-)

Toyota up the power a little of the 08 xb and keep it at good price. so they could of made something happen for the plans of that tC. LOL The tC price went up since it was first release anyway. it went up but not a lot.

Toyota is a coward when it comes to making performance cars.
They did make great performance cars in the 90's (Supra, MR2, Celica AllTrac), however, they were far more expensive than the competitors at times the competitors performed far better (DSM vs Celica). Not too many people could afford them as well. I remember the Supra sold for around $54,000 in 1996 before it was canned as well as the MR2T $30,000 and the $28,000 AllTrac Celica. Way too expensive today, and specially back then specially considering inflation rates.
I wouldn't hold my breathe with Toyota making something that raises my pulse. If Mazda can make a Speed3, I don't see why Toyota can't make a blown tC (don't get started with the TRD supercharger, +$3,000 option (with dealer install if you want the warranty) for just an extra 40hp and no LSD is way too much).
Toyota CAN, but they WON'T.
