Default "What kind of car is that?"

i just had my first person ask me what company makes my car today. i was waiting to use the atm and a guy asks me who makes that car. i told him it was scion and he asked isn't that made by toyota? i told him yes and he replied "i thought they just made those boxy ones. i didn't know they had another model." he also went on to comment that he hadn't seen any commercials on tv for them. i know others out there have similar stories and i just wanted to start a thread to see if anyone has some good ones.

I've had a ton of people I know ask me what car I bought, and most people have never even heard of Scion. I like it though, since cars from the big 3 are a dime a dozen in the Detroit area.

I keep getting asked if it's a hybrid... lame.

I get a lot of looks but really not a lot of questions. Not once has anyone said anything at a gas station or anywhere else that I'm nearby.

The one time anyone actually came up to me was while I was having dinner at a pizza place and I think my car was the only one out in the lot and this semi-trashy family pulled up. They stopped by my table after they ordered and started asking questions about it. The lady said her husband was thinking of getting one...

I get that ALL the time...

I love it...tC's are few and far between in the Detroit area so I love getting looks. I always seem to get more right after a good wash...

PPL say "what kind of car is that" and I say "a Scion" and they look like this so then I go made by Toyota...and they go

People always confuse my car with a box when i tell them its the tC, the couple model.

After i debadged the tC, i parked in a no parking area, and got a ticket that said "scion", and i got off of that ticket becuase it didnt state the model =]

I used to have to answer those questions like 6 months ago. But now that everyone has them I don't ever get that anymore.

Come to upstate NY... no one has a clue. Even the local ricers are confused.

I got pulled over one time and the cop thought it was a Mercedes. He was shocked when I told him how much I paid for it.

Recently I've had a lot of people recognize it and ask to see the inside. They all like the outside already. Then they love the inside too.

"There's a sunroof back there?"

I went to the bank today to get my $7500 Cashiers check for my tC I pick up on Wednesday.

The girl asked me what kind of Toyota I was getting (Had her make it out to dealership). I siad a Scion tc and she just gave me a weird look. I told her it was a new line of cars manufactured by Toyota and she just said, "oh".

Ive gotten people yelling at me from stoplights asking me what kind of car that is. The one word I hear the most when they describe the car is "Sharp" i have had at least 10 people i didnt know ask me "what car is that?" And when I went to Redline (a car meet in metro detroit) three seperate people asked to have a seat inside and I was practically selling them the car. I love this damn car. When I had my focus before this I would get excited when I would see another ZX3 or SVT focus that was hooked up a little, but now that I have my scion, I get ____ed off when I see other tC's on the road cause I loved it being the only tC in my area for the first couple months I had the car, now there's like 2 or 3 other ones I see every now and then. But it's still a "rare" car around here.

I was eating downtown with a friend, parked next to new Nissan Maxima. From the rears, they look similar and the guy who owned it happened to be sitting next to me on the patio.

I know what you guys mean when you say you feel like you're selling the car. They're so interested in it, and the most surprising part is when you tell them what you paid.

I'm going to start to lie and say it was around $30k.

Which I guess isn't such a lie after all of the performance work it's costed.

In southern California a random person will often see a brand new tC and say "Damn, now there's another. Oh well, I love mine."

I live in the NYC metro area. "Oh, you own a tC too?" I see my color tC all the time. Usually it's someone not meant to drive the car (a 45 year old scruffy guy with a tank shirt on).

One time a guy in a Mercedes Compressor Coupe pulled up next to me and said "nice car, guys like you and me, we do well". I was like "yeah, right on".... guess he's never heard of scion or thought i was a benz too.
