Default where does the air bag come out?

Hmm.. someone asked me where the passenger air bag comes out of the tC's dash. it's a good question, and I never really paid attention cuz I'm always on the driver's side. I did a search but only pulled up results on the side air bags... can anyone explain?

on the manual, it shows the air bag coming out of the dash... where? i dunno.... maybe the whole dash just flips out and hits ur face before the air bag or maybe the dash flips UP and the air bag comes out?

Yeah, I noticed that early on. If your passenger side airbag deploys, the whole dash needs to be replaced. There's no panel like in some cars, it just comes through the dash. I like this because it looks better, but the cost to replace everything after an accident has to be higher than normal.

From the shop manual:

Didn't you look at the picture above? There's a panel under the steering column that hides the airbag assembly. It takes up most of the space from the fusebox to the center console.

Thanks. Saw the wording for the Knee Airbag but didn't look closely at the part under steering column. Hopefully I will never actually see in real life!!

The cost to replace the dash after an accident basically doesn't matter. A Tc is essentially going to be totalled if the air bags deploy whether there is a dash panel or not. That is the one problem with airbags. They are so costly to replace almost any time they deploy the car is totalled.

Since we're on the subject, does anyone know where the side airbags are located?

not true just because bags go off does not mean its totaled insurance will pay up to 75% of value of car which on a 16000 car would be around 12,000 i work at a body shop so i am not just blowing this out my ****

Yeah, unfortunately the value the insurance company assigns to the Tc won't be 16,000. It'll be more like 14,000 at best. Secondly insurance companies pay anywhere from 51% to 80% on the highend.

0.51*14,000=7140
0.80*14,000=11200

Also, I think that 14,000 is definately a best case scenario. I wasn't saying the car would for sure be totalled if you got in a serious crash, but there is a good chance. Personally, if I got in a crash that deployed the air bags I'd hope the car would be totalled. Gap insurance would cover me and pay for my deductible. Also, I wouldn't be stuck with a car that had a serious accident in its history.

just something that crossed my mind... if you are in an accident and your car get's totalled, what happens to the mods you installed? (i.e. subwoofer, intake, pedals, etc.) can you get in there and take your parts? or does the insurance company keep them?

Anything that your insurance isn't paying to replace, you should have no problem keeping.

Exactly. I had the airbags deploy in my old Acura. A sewer cover that protruded from the street hit my undercarriage and knocked the shock sensor. Although, I didn't have my insurance replace it. I bought new Airbags on eBay, ordered new seatbelts and pretensioners from my dealership, and had everything installed at my local trusty bodyshop. Then I had it checked out and certified by the Acura Dealership. The total cost was under $2,000.

the passenger bag busts straight out of the dash! mega cash to help me get my tc totalled. the knee airbag actually pops out right under the steering wheel. 3 air bags stock. if you get in a wreck in they deploy find every minor thing and you will pretty much get it totalled. everything to make my airbags work and interior look normal was around 7-9 grand

that was my 05 and it got totalled.

I think this is an abnormal situation for the airbags to deploy. Generally speaking, if you get in an accident that is bad enough to set the airbags off, the cost of the airbag deployment + the dameage that was done that was enough to cause the bags to deploy usually will reach the point where they'll total the car.
