Default Why blur your plates in pictures...?

Just curious. I never do. Can anyone really do anything with your plate number?

well for less than $20 you can usually get someones address and name from a plate # and once they get that, they can either steal your car, mess with it, or jack things from it.

Theres absolutely nothing stupid about my question, but my guess for why its the "stupidest" you've heard is people might not rely on you for much.

lol so true. Its just a good idea to protect yourself like that, but then again, when you goto places like HIN and show your car, so many people get your plate #'s unless you take your plates off or put vanity plates like this:

Yeah I would totally put on vanity plates for a show.

My front plate is bent from back when it was on my Astro van and I had one of those guys who stopped short/faster than my vehicle could at an intersection when a corvette ran past us.

actually it's a pretty good question...think of it this way...
anybody you drive by/near or park near...can see and get ur license plate number anyway and then run the plates and get the info online. There's no real point IMO of blurring it...but if it makes u feel better...by all means, go ahead

when I went to HIN NightShift, I witnessed some guys writing down the VIN to a IS300. and from now on, I cover my VIN number on my dashboard.

Not that I would do this as its illegal and I could lose my job. But in my line of work I can take an license plate and find out where you live, any car you have ever had and also and place you have lived. I could also find out your driver record and if you have/had any warrants.

The reason

They see your plates in photos. They know the car. Its a safety precatuion.

BTW a tC with fake japanese plates (there are no letters used in the 4 positions for the plate numbers) is laughable. Considering the car isnt sold in japan at all

I don't ever blur a single one of my pictures. If someone wants to find me, all they have to do is ask and I'll tell them where I live.

Not to mention on some regular basis there's always someone posting a bunch of pics of their car where they blur the plate in a couple pics but always manage to forget to blur it in others. So why bother?

The only reason I know of is just revenge. So, you post online, and upset someone. Now granted, any real man or woman wont take it out on your car... but unfortunately there are many more people that are not real men or women out there (especially the in the "tuner" world). So they see a car that looks like yours parked somewhere. Do they mess with it or is it just one that looks like yours? OHHHHHH wait, you posted pics with your plates on them, so now they KNOW it is your car, and its hay day with the keying.

As far as coming to find ME, I could care less. If they want to come to my front door and find out what I am holding on the other side, more power to them

But seriously, ,most people are not out running plates to steal your 20,000 tC. Nor are they trying to stalk you down at your house (And most people spineless enough to do that are too dumb to have your plates run to begin with). At most it is just what I stated above, an indicator to those who want to mess up your car.
