Why no navigation option on tC?
I gotta disagree tc4me, I dont think offering a dvd nav would be so out of place. Mazda does offer one for the 3 and it is in the same segment. I personally think with the particular market segment scion is aiming for and with people expecting more and more for their money these days; seeing some upscale options would seem to me to fit in perfectly with the image and reputation that scion is trying to go for.
Yeah, but for a car thats only about $16.5k, I'm not expecting navigation to be standard. But like I said before, it could possibly be one of the options, but i'm not even expecting that. Who knows.
Agree. This car at its price range does not need NAV and it would not sell that well. On the Mazda 3, think Mazda made a mistake by offering it as two of the Mazda dealers I have talked to are not asking for any Mazda 3 with NAV for their car lots. You have to order it or hope another dealer has it. This car segment is for us with less money who probably want to spend it on other type of accessories with any $ left.

the way i see it this is toyota's shot at the youth market. so we're talking teenagers here. if they need a map, they shouldn't be going there. mommy might ground them. if you follow me.
from another perspective, i agree it would not be cost effective. most people i'd say would forgoe it and if they were really into it, buy some aftermarket setup. and i always prefer the buttons of a radio rather than the touch screen. you can't feel where it is while you drive so you'd have to look away from the road, bad idea.

tc4me, didnt mean to say for 16.5k that dvd nav would be standard, I meant that offering it as an option wouldnt be a bad idea. As many tuners put in dvd units and etc. I think advertising the tc w/ dvd nav would give it a upscale ambience, but ppl seeing the price will be amazed. It's like with the base altima 2.5 no ac, etc. Nissan only makes a few of these models but they are able to advertise an insanely low base price. hopefully i got my point off well....
Also, tctech I think yoru comments are off as I think the true age group scion is trying to reach isnt as young as you believe. I think its like maybe as young as 18 or so, but I think it's really about 20-35 or so. Im turning 21 in a few months and have a very good established credit line and will be buying this car w/o any assistance from my parents, so I think my particular group is what scion is trying for. Then when it's time to turn in the scion, toyota is hoping I loved the experience so much I'll move up to a toyota or lexus. Like you said though most ppl will go with a aftermarket set up but I think just the idea of offering it makes the tc more appealing to a wider range, in imo.

I say the ave cost for Nav is at LEAST 2K...
I saw the Nav on the V6 Accord coupe... All I can say is pretty cool!!!
The reason why I would love to have one, is because I like to take drives into the middle of nowhere... Finding new roads and just going into places that I have to be more aware of since I'm actually lost.... I love it when all of a sudden I find this nice little street with say some resturants two towns away and if I ever had a Nav system, I can find my way not only back home, but back to there to try out the resturant!!
The Nav system would be totally leasure... The practical use for it would be next to none... I don't go out much and if I do, I'll be sure I know where I'm going.... Although this DOES change dramatically when I get a new car as I drive about 3 times as much...

I'd NEVER get navigation or OnStar or anything like that in my car.
You really think I want people to be able to track my car through GPS? To be able to look at the GPS tracks and see, for example, that I averaged 110 mph over a ten mile stretch of highway at three in the morning? Next thing I know, I'm getting speeding tickets in the mail.
Nope, sorry, leave GPS locators the hell out of my car.

I dont know how that can happen. I've driven many times over 110mph in a car with GPS and NEVER got a ticket in the mail. I dont think that can even work since they have no proof what so ever that it was you driving.
Sounds to me like he's afraid of them tracking him, but I would guess a speeding ticket isn't his real worry.
I'm sure he doesn't use a cell-phone either cuz those can be tracked too... Just ask Scott Peterson
Just like most things, it's a trade-off. As long as you know and are willing to trade some privacy for safety, it's not a big deal.
If you do have something to hide, take his advice and stay away from these things. Did you know that the Feds have tried to set-up wire taps on people's On-Star service. They can turn it on and its like having a live mic in the cab of your ride... It came out recently in a trial. They weren't allowed to do it because if the person got into an accident, they wouldn't be able to call for help. They tried to argue that someone would be listening and could notify the proper authorities... Give them time tho and they'll figure out a way...
With a little more research, it turns out they did tap someone's car...

Wow, I hadn't thought of that, makes sense. I had heard of rental car companies doing it though. Turn the car in, and get a bill in the mail for a few hundred dollars for violating the rental agreement by speeding, time and place noted. I forget what rental car company it was. Sure as hell reminds you to read the fine print though.
didnt think technology had come that far to track down a person's speed, etc. always thought they needed a black box to do that like i think chevrolet did a few years ago even though I think there are plenty of privacy laws against it. I was under the impression the only thing that gps could do was track down a person's location down.
Looks like we got our resident conspiracist on the board too!! j/k neverspeakawordagain
