Default Which Would You Buy?

So I was pretty set on tint for my next "mod." It'll run me about $175. I've been wanting to get it for a while... but lately I've been thinking I should maybe get something a little more "useful" for my car.

So I've been thinking of a Scangauge II with Dr Isotope's cubby panel. It'll work out to nearly the same price and provide a bit more info as far as gauges and such go, not to mention code reading should the need arise.

So what would you get?

One thing that might matter is that none of this $ would be out of my pocket. I get these "recognition" things from work for $25 visa gift cards (b/c I'm awesome ). And I can save them up and cash them in for a bigger card. It's actually how I paid for my amp too. Last one I cashed in was $200 and I already have $225 worth saved up right now. They're not a regular occurance though, so I couldn't count on saving up to get both things soon... it would be one now and then maybe one in a couple months when I get a few more.

So ya... what do you think?

Hmm, what's ScanGauge all about? This is the first time I'm hearing about it. What makes it worth ~$200?

Here you go:

And they're on eBay for $160 with free shipping.

Hmmm, interesting. So it's just straight plug-and-play? I see it has a number of different readings. What do you want to use it for?

Yup... plug it into the OBDII connection and that's it... at least from what I can tell. I was looking at it for the fuel economy and voltage mainly. But the intake air temp would be nice to know occasionally too.

I think some of the readings are pretty useful. Fuel economy is something you can calculate on your own, given the numbers you already know, but some of the displays show data which is otherwise unavailable. I kind of want one now. Is there a convenient place to mount it in the tc? *goes outside to check*

Garage1217 (or whatever the number is) makes something similar too and you can even get it in carbon fiber.

Hmmm. I would just be interested to know about the fit. I am a major perfectionist and things like poor fitments bug the hell out of me (I already have a few). Is it solid once it's in there? Is it going to move and rattle or fall out if I push a button too hard? If I can convince myself that it looks clean and solid then I might consider getting it.

Well I don't really "need" tint either.

The chances are that I'll get both at some point anyways... but I'm just trying to decide what to do first. I suppose that tint would make sense as far as timing goes so that I can actually have it for part of the summer still... but I don't know.

Ya, that I'm not sure about. If you search for Scangauge here on the forums though, quite a few people have his mount, so you could ask them or just PM the Dr.

Well I already support the Dr pretty well... radiator panel, battery strap, cai fender panel, shift **** and collar, subwoofer box... ya, I think that's it for now.

But the mileage is more of a realtime thing that I'm curious about. Would be nice to find a good "optimal" speed (or close to it) for the highway. I can arbitrarily pick something, but it would be nice to have a real idea of what I'm running.

(btw... you might want to take those pics out of your sig... not allowed, sorry)

Go tint. I have the Scangauge II. It got old really fast. The gas mileage info is useless in my opinion. It didn't tell me anything I don't already know. It's come in handy a few times with the CEL, but otherwise, I took it out and it just sits in my garage collecting dust...

Tint will help keep internal cabin temperatures down as well as protect you and the internals from UV rays. Scangauge2 will just tell you a lot of information you already know and some you don't.

The only real thing I have found to be really nice to know on the Scangauge2 is Intake Temperature and Coolant Temperature. The gas consumption features are nice but I don't care about MPG, I'm not upgrading an already gas efficient car to a super gas efficient car!
