I'm pretty sure we have an accelerometer in the front of the pass cabin that determines when to fire the bag.
And to the op: no, I'm assuming you are unhurt, the airbag could have changed that.
EDIT:A quick check of "New Car Features" reveals that we have an accelerometer buried behind the waterfall, 2 sensors up front(attached to frame rails) and four sensors for the side impact airbags.

yeah im fine, just a broke nose lol
but i was just curious
i figured they should have gone off. i was doing like 35mph when it happened which is why i thought the accelerometer might have gone off.

The both cars crumpled slowly bringing it to a safe(ish) stop. The airbag would do more harm than good in a crash like this. think about it, if the seatbelt is enough to safely hold you back then the airbag would be slamming you back into the seat(by blowing up in your face). fun.
EDIT:And they cost several grand to replace. Moar fun.
What did you break your nose on?

Also.. little known thing about airbags.. they use a chemical called sodium azide to inflate the bag.. which when inhaled causes flu and cold symptoms for about two weeks. I found this out after I had a lady pull out in front of me. Be happy those bastards didn't go off.. I hate airbags.
