Default WTF.. no one better be driving my car!!

I just read a post in another thread where a guy drove an AT tC that had been bought already, and he was pushing it on the freeway etc etc. This is the same guy that burned rubber and scared the ____ out of the dealer going down the freeway in a 5-spd test drive model. what the hell is that?? I dunno if he was mistaken or not, but how is it possible for a dealer to let someone test drive a car that's someone else's already??

I guess what I'm trying to ask is:

1.) Can you actually do that?
2.) Can you tell your dealer to not let people drive it (I dont' care if they sit in it or whatever)
3.) What the hell??!

Pardon me for freakin out a bit, but no one better drive my tC until I drive my tC I'm sure all of you who have deposits down will agree!

well just in case tell the dealer that, when you order your tC, keep intact with the dealer on delivery and the mileage on the car...

just be smart, dont let anyone drive your new car before you

thats all the advice i got :o

Exactly, they shouldn't be test driving a preordered car that has arrived! My Black Cherry tC had 1 mile, and that was from the mechanic supposedly checking the sh*t out, so I was happy!! Just went over the 100th today, lol, but no, they shouldn't be test driving yours, as you actually "ordered" it, like an order of fries, that thing is yours, lol!!! Your money backs that up, I don't know, but if they have been test driving yours, maybe ask for a discount?????

lmao.. u must be talking about me.... actually... those 2 cars i test droved were both demos.. just happens that the auto was sold... but had to be left there for ppl to test drive and check out. I'm sure the buyer knows that, when I got in the car, the milage was at 56 already.. and I prolly only put 2 mile on it.

You wanted the car first, and the dealer sold you their demo. I guess patience pays off sometimes.

nobody should be driving your car other than the prep guy to go prep it and the sales person to bring it to you

i'm a tech at toyota and we don't go "check" stuff out on a new car.... now the demo car does get abused by everybody

so no no one can drive your new car but 2 other people

Guys i can understand and agree getting upset about 20-50 miles on the tC when you pick it up, not knowing what fool ran the thing to redline, or tried to heal-toe it going down an exit ramp on the freeway.
But 1-5 miles... The car will get that much unloading it at the dock, on and off trucks multiple times, down to the corner station for a fillup, etc. and never go on a test drive.

But if you think that the very first of a kind of car on a dealer lot, won't get driven by at least salesmen or the owner, you are pretty nieve.

nice... so i'm not crazy after all.

how is it different when you go and test drive a car you ordered tho? there was the discussion from another thread about how you should never take home a car unless you have driven it - let's say even if you have already put down a deposit, if it gets there and you don't like the way it drives after a 5-mile test drive or whatever, you get the deposit back and the dealer gets to sell it to someone else?

i understand now that sush1a was driving a demo that someone had bought... but f'real, i wouldn't think it to be very smart to buy a car people are gonna be monkeying with all the time.

I specifically requested that my car not be test driven at all. I expect around 4 miles on the odometer. My salesman agreed and my car got at the dealership late yesterday. The technicians have to prep the car first and I am going to pick it up in 1 hour.

I pick it up in 1 hour, but with all the paperwork I should be home in a little over 3 hours. I will try and post pictures but my digicam is not working properly. Takes like 5 minutes to get it to work, but I will try to get pictures. It is a flint mica.

I sat in your car today!! WHAT!! haha its all good tho...as long as I see less than 20 miles on the car when i go in to pick it up today i'll be happy! :D

I hit the rev limiter on the demo 5spd they had just goten last weekend here in ky. I didn't mean to though, I was used to how long it took on my car to go up the rpms, and before I knew it I tagged the rev limiter!

But the guy was cool about it, he took me on a road so I could "drive" the car anyway. But I was the very first person to drive it after it had just been PDI'd (pre-delivery inspection). It had 2 miles on it when I took it out. VERY sweet though...flint mica...dead freaking sexy....whew!!

I wouldn't be too concerned with it, when I got my matrix, it had 37 miles on it and most of those were from where they had to drive the car from the next town over.......from my understanding they (toyota) electronically run the motors before they put them in the cars. (that is what I was told by the scion guy....soon after I had hit the rev limiter and a conversation we were having about the 'break-in" period).

What is wrong with heel and toe? Are you saying that it's bad during the break in period? Why? I suppose if you had to do it while going at very high speed, and the downshifts were at redline, or more, then it would be bad. When I test drove the tC, that was one of the first things I checked. The pedal placement ik pretty decent for it.

Here at our dealership a car that has been pre-ordered or has a deposit on it is considered a sold unit, meaning it already belongs to someone. We respect our customers enough that we will not allow anyone to drive the car beyond it's PDI. We might let someone sit in the car, but no way do they get to move it.
I insist that the customer drive their car when they come for delivery...part of my job is to make sure the buyer is happy with their purchase. However, I have had customers decline this drive...they like being able to say that their car only had 1 mile on it when they bought it! :D [/u]
