Default xA to tC

i own an xA and completly love it except the trany is questionable and its not relaly fitting my life style anymore. im lookin ot stay in scion with the tC because its a little more refined and classier. but can you guys tell me how the 5M trany holds up dose it take hard driving on weekends well? hows the clutch compaired to the xA's grosly underpowered clutch? and do you have any idea why a tC with side impact airbags is 400 dollers every 6 months less to inshure than my xA?? oh and do you think 12400 is a good askin price for a scion modded xA with 18000 milles?

mods
scion armrest
TRD lowering kit
TRD exhause
mudflaps from scion
sports peddles and shift ****
everything else i have in the car ill remove and keep or sell off so dont let my sig confuse you

$ seems reasonable. I know insurance is similar for all models (it was like $10 buck more a month for a tC vs my xB when I checked for myself). The tC should be able to handle anything you throw at it on weekends. As for the clutch, it's much better in terms of sporty driving. The xA/xB are extremely basic and simplistic, whereas the tC has a much sportier feel. Not as stiff my Bimmer was, but much stiffer than the xA.

Impreza 2.5 will beat you. Why dont you just get a used RSX type-S if you want a quick 4cylinder coupe.

I switched from an xA to a tC. . . and I love the tC, but in an entirely different way than the xA.

I had a previous post (that was fairly lengthy) that you can search for. The 5MT tranny in the tC is flawless, and the clutch is perfectly adequate. 99% of people I know have no problem driving it, except for those who have never driven a manual with a late engagement (typically Honda drivers). I learned to drive manual on a Porsche, so it's not a big deal for me. It's just a matter of getting used to it.

Of course it's a more powerful car so the clutch will grip better. The stock clutch on my xA slipped quite a bit on aggressive shifts, which was actually useful at times.

1) I wish third gear was shorter. 2) I wish fifth gear was taller (or there was a sixth gear). 3) The revs do drop fairly slowly.

i dident care if he could beat me or not but i figured teh car is only 170 hp AWD the tC is 160 hp FWD simaler gearing so i would think the tC would win because there is less HP loss a the wheeles but like i said i dident care i was just curius because my f riend thinks he can beat anything so it woulda been nice to whipe the smugness off his face on a 1/8 mile drag

I am not so sure on that. The Impy is rated at 174hp and 166lb/ft. The tC is 161hp and 162lb/ft. Factor in the AWD drive train loss with the roughly equal weight and it could be close in a drag race. Of course, the Impy will be able to launch faster because of AWD, however, it will not have as much power to the pavement. Auto-X is most likely the Impy because AWD = ownage.

I know AWD has a lot of drive train loss, it took my friend (2005 WRX) almost $3K to get the awhp up to the crank rated hp (234 hp).

The winner of that race would be determined by who has the better tires.

If he's got good tires, he can dump the clutch and launch hard. But since neither car is making tons of power, a proper tire setup would be MORE than adequate for launching in 2WD. Wheel hop, however, would be your enemy.

The stock tires blow, and there's tons of wheel hop on hard launches.

But who cares. You shouldn't buy this car based on beating your friends subaru. . . buy a car that you can live with for the next few years (or how ever long you intend to keep it).

hum, don't know what you mean by the clutch having "more power," but I'm sure that it does have a heavier feel than your xA clutch. Our engines have more power, so its going to need a beefier clutch. I'm guessing that's what you were asking.

Our trannies are all right... I'd say, if you were planning on doing some abuse to it, to change out to Redline gear oil

with or without snow tires? Any car with stock all-seasons aren't going to do its best in the snow.

I sold my xA for a tC...I think it was best thing I have done for myself in a very long time. I sold my Silver Streak '06 with 35,xxx miles for $10,000 and I had to tag on extra $3,000 onto the new loan for negitive amount. I only did this with $1,000 down payment.

All I'm saying is....Be careful and think it through. Cause it's going to be least 430.00 car payment a month. If you think that's going to be problem then don't do it. Lucky for me; I went to my xA's sales consultant again and she went on the edge for negotiating with Toyota Financial Services cause they originally wanted $2,800's for the down payment.
