***the offical autoX thread***
Well it was an interesting weekend for me at the autocross. I ran with a Porsche club around here again. Here are the results http://www.pcachs.org/autocross/auto...4_overall.html . I think I could have done better if I was more consistent, but overall I'm happy.
Hello all, I haven't been on scionlife in a while, and I came back and saw this thread.
Anyway, my name is Victor, and I have been autocrossing since summer 05 at which time I had an 04 civic, which I placed 1st in FSP locally in 4 of the 7 events I raced in. I loved that car, had a dc5-r rear sway bar, rear disc brake conversion, custom valved konis with ground controls, rt-615s, etc.
I just got my tc autocrossable in April when the season began locally. My setup is as follows:
trd shocks (wanted konis, but got a deal locally)
trd springs (need to get rid of these, progressive rate ftl)
trd rear sway bar
ingalls rear stb
ingalls stiffy
ingalls ss braided clutch line
dc front stb
i/h/e
megan racing seats and harnesses (got em cheap)
205/50/15 azenis rt615s (yes, i know i'm undertired, i had these laying around)
All this puts me in DSP, in which we have a few sciroccos, a couple ITRs, 2 EJ civic exs, a mazdaspeed protege (should be in stx, but he's slow anyway
), and a few other people that aren't there every event. So far this season has had some mixed results. Thus far we've had 4 events, and i've placed 1st, 4th, 1st, and 5th (with mostly the same competition every time, this last sunday I was just tired and wanted to leave because ot the heat though, so drove like crap). We all get along well and know each other pretty well so it's cool, good fun.
Anyway, just wanted to stop by and say hello.
oh, I also got an amazing deal on 2 brand new 215/45/17 rt615s for $120, so in total $350 for a set. The other two should be here any day now. This will solve my tire problem, which has been holding me back the most, wheelspin out of every corner because of the small diameter of my 15s.

BTW, you have the same wheels I have for the street, 17x8 Rota Torques, its just that mines are black :D

from the 2007 scca rulebook...
+ All sedans under 1.7L not
otherwise classified. All 4-cyl and
rotary RWD mini-pickups. (See
Section 15.1.C for update/backdate
limitations.)
that comes from the end of the FSP section, in which the tc isn't listed.
Sounds like a decent setup. Our test n tune went well last weekend. Two courses and I put down about 30 runs between them. One offered a perfect place to practice trail braking, which was very nice to get used to in the tC. Made for a fast line through some of the faster corners. I am still running all seasons and staying about mid pack in STS (which is super competitive here) and in PAX, which I am very happy with. A track/street alignment and some sticky tires would make a big improvement for sure. Hope to do that this year, but we just bought a house, so it may just get run like it is for the remainder of this season.
We have an event this weekend, and then another on the 25th, which is a half autox course opening up to a 1/2 mile top speed run on an old runway, so that will be a blast!

blah, ran my 5th event today and did horrible. i suck at tight slow courses. i really need a sway bar. i probably came in last place out of maybe 10 or so cars.
stupid turbo, i hate being in SM
. i think i'm the only car that is running all season tires. everyone else is on performance or race rubber.

I too am running on all seasons. I get a lot of "wow.. those are GREAT times on all season tires!" comments :D I did pretty badly today, mainly because I managed to clip one of 4 apex cones on nearly every run, so even my competitve times were coned away! But that is just the way it works. Of course, I put down times in the fun runs afterward that would have put me up 5 places or more! But that is just the way it is as well.. no pressure equals better times.
When I started, it was all driver improvement while I learned the sport and the tC. Now, the all seasons are more a part of the limiting factor (not that I am that good.. just that I am outdriving the tires now). Some azenis, more negative camber and some toe will make the car a different story though for sure. The nice thing is to learn with what you have for a while before making tweaks, then the changes stand out to you.

Yep! At least I was driving it right though and hit it with the back wheel
That day was cone carnage day for me. I was backsiding them just like I should, but gettin too close again and again. Wasnt my day (or the cones I guess) on many runs! Great event though, we got 9 timed runs and fun runs.

Basically, if you arent hitting cones, you are driving tight enough :D Watching the best drivers we have out there, they will kill cones in at leat half thier runs before getting it dialed in. I have learned to just go b@!!s out on my first few runs just to get a feel of the course/car limits, then tune it in from there.
During our autocross novice school here, the instructors riding with you will tell you to TRY to hit a cone (without actually hitting it head on actually). You would be suprised how hard it is to do. It is all about learning where the edge of your car is.

Yep. I'm getting dialed in to that fact. It's taking me less and less runs to get my mind switched from street to autox, but that's two or three runs I should be dialing in. I still need to work on trail braking too. It's elusive for me.
thanks kuo, usually there are photographers at most events (all the pics i have of me running are from the event's photographer i.e. bmwcca had hired a private guy and then you can just download them online).
Very nice. I'm pretty sure that there are a couple photos floating around from one of my events but I've yet to find them. Next event's the 26th so maybe I can get some up from that one. (back on topic) I'm itching to put the RT 615s I just picked up onto a course. The difference in handling is phenomenal. I picked up a spare set of OEM wheels in the deal so I can switch back to the OEM tires between autoxes but after being on the Azenis tires for a week I'm having a lot of trouble convincing myself that I need to change back to my street tires in this heat.
