[*]HELP[*] Ingalls "stiffy" tuning
Here is the DIY if you're interested in the steps: http://blog.scionxtc.com/blogs/archi...ue-damper.aspx
After I finished, I took it for a test run. Holy Moley, the vibration was horrible.
I have an automatic and it was just to the point of unbearable. When its idling, it makes the worse shaking ever. Just above 2k rpm, it seems to go silent. Under hard acceleration, it sounds pretty cool, but I'm sure theres something wrong with the sound.
For you owners, what tuning techniques did you guys use? I'm sure if the tuning is done correctly, the vibration and sound should be reduced (noticed that I didn't say eliminated?)
I've checked for: (but please correct me if I need to know more specifics)
Dampener length
Torque specs
Theres dynomating under the brackets
How do I turn down the dampening force? I read that its set at 14mm, but if I want to make it softer, would I go towards 13mm or 15mm?
What else should I be looking for? What did you guys do?
I will be grateful for any help!

you want to loosen it so it will vibrate less, so i would guess towards 15 mm.
and also, what did you expect? you have jsut directly connected the engine to the chasis at the strut tower directly before the firewall, that thing doesn't make the engine movement vibration go away, it just transfers it.

oh no, I know there would be a bit more vibration. I just didnt know it would be to the point where my rear view mirror starts to shake and sounds like a machine gun is going off during idle.
what do you need help with exactely? the torque damper is like a leash that ties the engine to the strut tower to limit reduce how much the engine moves while torquing.
if you want to reduce the range of motion, then tighten it, this will increase vibration.
if you want to increase the range of motion, loosen the torque damper.
so make it longer to reduce your vibration, or take it off and only put it on when your going down to the track.

I installed a Stiffy in a buddy's tC, he couldn't live with it for even a week. It is simply not a well thought out product.
On the other hand, I've had my GhettoFab ETD in the car for 2 years, and I love it. Of course, it doesn't really transfer vibration to the cabin, make noises, or annoy me in any way.

i have had mine for almost a year now. it does make a little more noise and a little bit of vibration at idle but it's not unbearable at all. i feel the benefits of it are well worth it. much easier shifting(Manual tranny), it seems to put more power to the ground and it really gives me a lot better traction.
i use cloth reinforced rubber washers in place of the o-rings the directions tell you to use and it helped a bit but they keep getting destroyed by heat. i'm going to try and find some poly washers and see if that makes a diff.

thanks for the input so far! keep them comping if possible.
I think im going to add another layer of dynomat on the brackets. I tried it once with the orings but its not enough. At idle, its superrrrrr unbearable. It sorta makes the sunroof rattle a bit.
Super annoying

i found nylon washers at a bolt and fastener warehouse nearby and i used them in place of the cloth reinforced rubber washers and it didn't seem to get any quieter or louder, but they should last unlike the cloth reinforced rubber ones.
the only time the damper annoys me is when i'm at idle with the AC on or when it's really cold(like below 35 degrees). when it's really cold outside it makes a crazy popping cracking kinda sound because the rubber inside the damper hardens and shrinks.
