Default 5x114 on a tC?

Ever since the new xB came out, I've been wondering.. Seeing as their Hubs are 5x114.. I was wondering how farfetched it would be to swap out an xB2's hubs onto my tC? Not many wheel choices for 5x100 folk...

PM MrC or Mike @ PTuning. They use a custom 5x114 hub for their TA tC. Not sure if they plan on releasing it and selling it, but they have already tested t he design at the track. I'm sure if they get enough interest, they'll begin to produce. And I can guarantee it'll be A LOT stronger than an xB2 hub...

I don't doubt P-tuning's quality at all. I was just wondering how similar the hubs from an xB2 would be to our tCs.

Probably not very similar at all.

I'd love to do the swap to run OEM Lexus/Toyota wheels (SC430 wheels ). the better question is: who has spare Toyota fwd 5x114.3 hubs lying around and willing to take the time to see if it fits the tC?

there's a large interest in this, but nobody's got the parts. first you gotta determine which Toyota 5x114.3 hub to use, assuming they're not all the same (xB2, Camry, RAV4, etc, and from what years?). then you gotta take apart the front hub/brake assembly to try it out (which involves punching in wheel bearings/races with a hydrolic press).

Toyota's 5x114.3 hubs and wheels use a larger 60.1 centerbore compared to the 5x100's 54.1 centerbore. So you'll need new rotors to match the larger centerbore and bolt pattern, which means you'll have to determine which 5x114.3 toyota uses the same size rotors. hubs and rotors may not be the only parts needed. VW (4x100->5x100) and S13 240SX (4x114.3->5x114.3) swaps require a front control arm swap as well.

i think a dealership parts dept should look up the parts and compare sizes. Scionlife has several dealer/OEM parts sponsors who could benefit from potential sales if they do the research.

if some does the research, its not going to be cheap. S13 240SX guys typically pay around $600 for a complete 5x114.3 swap from a S14 240SX SE. $600 is for used parts typically from the junkyard.

I just realized I've never seen a 5x114.3 swap on a AE86 (maybe someone's done it, but I dont recall). These guys would definitely benefit from 5x114.3 swaps, but for some reason its not commonly done. The AE86 has been around for 20 years and it looks like nobody's done the research, so that doesnt look good for us tC owners LOL.

or you can use a spacer that makes your 5x100 bolt patternt into a 5x114 and go from there.

the thing with that is that you're gonna have to use a super high offset to compensate for the spacers...

VW guys run 5x130 Porsche wheels using 25-30mm adapters, but stock Porsche wheels run offsets of et55-65. even then they're poking out alittle. Finding a 5x114.3 wheel with that high offset is just as likely as finding low offset 5x100 wheels.

filling and re-drilling a great inexpensive option ($40-70 per wheel), but works best if your wheels have a centercap.

filled and redrilled

redrilled only

any new info on this? I'd love to be able to get this done if it works. The new xb is still too new for me to get my hands on a test hub/spindle.

Problem I have found is the new xB is one of the only 5x114.3 option out there. Almost all toyotas have been 5x100.

If anyone knows of other ccars in the toyota line up with 5x114.3 hubs let me know and i will do some research into it.

what size rotors, hub and wheel bearings are on the tC? If there is interest ina kit for 5x114.3 conversion and larger rotors I could possibly help make that happen.

Camry's have had 5x114.3mm for years if not decades.

You can swap their front uprights(knuckles, etc....), but you have to use their calipers and rotors, bigger so that is cool.

But, you would have to see about the axle splines into the hubs or Camry axles going into the tC gearbox though the gearbox is pretty much the same except final drive ratio(camry is better)

---------

The real issue is the rear due to the complex and tight confines of the rear upright. Either take apart some Camry and tC hubs and see if the parts can match up or what maching has to be done(making spare parts a pain in a race car, why I have not done it yet)

Anything can be done, it all depends on dedication to the task and spending whatever it costs;)

1991 was the last 5x100 Camry

I think only someone who works at a dealer parts department with access to Toyota's computer part diagrams can determine what might be interchangeable on paper.
