Default Andrew1782 vs Scion Dealership

Qouted $272.00 Including tax to service rear brakes....double that for rear and fronts. When I looked at the service guy and questioned that he said "well if another place said cheaper are they turning the rotors?" To which I laughed and walked out.

So to the point. I did my rear brakes today, had the rotors turned (only $12each by the way)still with all parts and everythng involved spent....$95. That's right $177.00 less than the dealership!

Now....lets hope I did it right.......errrrrr

Seriousley you guys... when he brought up if the other place was turning the rotors I about died. I almost said yeah for a whopping $12 but I guess you guys are like 10 times that for the turning of the rotors. I swear you guys the dealerships just slay me anymore....just mindboggeling.

I don't know why you are flipping out over how expensive taking your car to the dealership is. Its like that for anyone. They charge jobs by the book and labor usually runs around 80-100 bucks an hour. The good thing about deciding to go to the dealership is that they will warranty their work and part,, where as any other mechanic shop wont. And your not being very courteous by being rude to the service guy at the dealership, its not his fault labor is too expensive for you, its not like they are purposely trying to rip you off, he is just doing his job.

I know that if I wanted to get something done right, on time, and with warranty and the reassurance I wouldn't mind taking it to the dealership. Anyhow doing brakes is cake, you could of saved your self even more money by doing it yourself. With some replacement pads and taking your rotots to get turned you wouldn't of spent over $50.

But just in case reading isn't your field of expertise here are the cliff notes:

1) Wasn't rude to the service guy

2) At no point was I "flipping out"

and 3) I did do it myself you moron.

Oh and #4) just to clarify right now I AM bieng rude to you .

Peace.

lol I don't give a ____ if some guy in his early 30's is being "rude" to be over some web based scion board. Haha, from this last post and your first post you seem to have an anger issue. Your little name calling doesn't phase me though, I know that at the end of the day I do all work on my car. I don't have to worry about geting quoted at the dealer for anything. I'll be doing some Hawk HP Pluses with my new Porterfield R4S pads next week, then I'm going to go Auto X and drive the hell out of my car.

Wendysorbust- You actually think that the dealer always does the right/correct job? um, i guess you haven't seen the dealerships the rest of us have had to endure. Lots of them really DO NOT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING when they attempt to "fix" something. There are a handful of dealers do know what they're doing but the majority hire people who really don't care what they do.

You go against andrew1782 but yet you're doing exactly what he did in replacing your brake pads yourself, so i don't get it. Do you just want to argue?

and yes all of us can agree that the dealership charges way too much for simple jobs. Just because it's "in the book" doesn't mean they need to charge that. In this economy, they'll be lucky to stay in business if they continue to charge outrageous prices for simple maintenance. People always find a way to fix stuff in economic downturns that don't cost them lots of money.. Ask some older people what happened to dealerships in the 80's when they did the same thing (poor service-high prices)

If you are going to "qoute my comments" then make sure they are correct. Again though I am not surprised to see you do something like that.

As far as for my age and your insinuation of my income and not bieng able to afford dealer prices, you are displaying your ignorance.

It's funny how a simple thread gets some randon kid all bent out of shape.

Even funnier how many ignorant comments he made.

Anyway, point is, beware of dealerships......

Yep, and it happens all too frequently. Unfortunately it's not going to change, that's just the nature of people in general, at least on the 'Net.

Sounds like you did what's best in that scenario. For the prices the stealership is trying to charge, forget machining the rotors, you could get new rotors and still come out ahead DIY.

Which 'stealership ' was that? Doesn't surprise me here in the valley.
When I had my new rotors and pads installed it didn't cost me anything!
I'm fortunate to know peeps who can do the job right.

Toyota switched it in february 2006, for the 2006 and newer tCs. They issued a technical service bulletin to update what to use.

It's good, friend of mine was having noise when cold with 5w-30.. Switched to 5w-20 and great cold starts now. My friend's dealership told him it would be better for cold weather, and they were right. Even in summer the engine was working better. It's a good thing, stay with the switch.
