Default Black Hotchkis Spring?

I am thinking about buying a used Hotchkis spring from a craiglist's seller and we are negotiating price right now. He said his spring is black and he paid 350 when he bought it. I've done a little research, but the only thing I can find is this silver one

https://www.upscaleautomotive.com/p-...-scion-tc.aspx

I couldn't find any black hotchkis springs. Should I buy from him? He is asking $165 plus shipping. I asked him about pictures and I am still waiting for the reply. Maybe some pics later.

Thanks

They're all silver. I'd say if you want Hotchkis, get them somewhere else. There's no way they were ever $350.

Mine aren't silver, and they came in the Hotchkis TVS kit. Mine are a dark blueish gray coating on them.

Earlier springs were silver/light gray, newer ones are darker gray.
I'd say if they're black they're not Hotchkis - unless they've been repainted. Secondly, that's waaaaay too much to pay for used, considering you can get them new for the same price. Don't do it.

Must be a better coating on them now then... after mine rusted to crap and wasted away to nothing but broken pieces of metal.

yeah i'd almost say dont buy them just cuz unless they changed they manufacturing process theres a very good chance they will rust into little peices of spring.

just like Ack, mine crumbled up into rusty dust.

I've had mine on for about 4 years and 80K. I know they're rusty in spots, but damn - I'd better go check to see if they're still there! No wonder my car is so low!

Here's my thread on them from before:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=221286

They ended up sending me a new set for nothing - which was cool. But I had already replaced them with some H&Rs. I just eBay'd them. Definitely was not happy though.

Wow. Just read your thread ack, surprised I didn't see that when you originally posted.
I was going to change my struts a few months ago, and pulled out the passenger side front first. Spring rust didn't look too bad, nothing like yours. I ended up putting the stock one back in because of the bump stop issue (pic below - cut the OEM stop for now, and put that back in). Still have to change the struts, so I'll def check the springs completely this time. I wrote this in a different thread:

Wha wha what???
My springs have been on for a couple of years, but I noticed them rusting early on.
Last fall I took off the front strut, and found the Hotchkis supplied bump stop was pulverized. I emailed them with a pic and asked about replacements - reply I got was 'here's the part number, they're $13.20'.
You mean to tell me they'll replace $150 worth of springs for rust, but wouldn't send me a free set of $13 bump stops?
I also have Hotchkis sways, camber links, and a strut bar - so I've spent quite a bit of $ on their stuff. Wasn't too pleased with that response.
