Default CF/Kevlar roof now installed, in Corner Carvers...

Because it is such a major handling improvement part and why we got it in the first place, to improve handling

Sorry no pics but our new website is not ready to post pics on yet, I work far to many hours and do not have much time online of to deal with pics(end up working late and far to often all night to get any progress on our project cars) and we have other reasons for the future of our car;)

Stock roof, 62 lbs, creaks, moans, groans, sometimes shatters, head gets hot from being so close to the sun, etc. lol

DF/K roof, 16lbs the way we installed it which is very secure and with out using any factory sunroof parts as it was originally designed to be installed with.

The doors shut far more solidly, the car is quieter inside, more headroom(for now, still deciding on headliner mods) the whole chassis feels stiffer, handling is vastly improved.

Turn in is much quicker, smoother and far more predicatable.

Mid corner has alot less body roll, even with a big rear bar installed it still rolled a fair amount before, not much now

Lower center of gravity means lower roll center/ roll couple, less weight transfered to the outside wheels, riding more on all four instead of mostly on two wheels during hard cornering.

Much sleeker looking, fewer gaps means less drag and turbulance, less noise as well.

Stock roof is a bunch of expensive parts, should be able to recover our investment and have some left over for other mods when we sell off the parts.

Very unique, not going to see to many of these around, if any

NOTE: This was a very time consuming and pretty intense install, would not recommend it to anybody unless they have alot of fabrication skills, a very good dry place to work and plenty of time to not be using your car.

To be a viable self installed item it would need some significant redesign and the manf does not, at this time, have plans to make them available.

If you want it done then a campain to the manf would be in order, I would not bug them unless you are very serious and then if you do, tell them Rick McCallum at RAAMaudio has one and that he said you would need alot of interest to even think of doing this for us, ask for Andy;)

(775) 351-2240

As of right now, CF fabric is in short supply due to large defense department and aerospace industry orders, we chose to have ours lined inside with Kevlar/CF weave and the outside black gel coated, looks close to stock this way, our car is a bit of a sleeper;)

Please only call them if you are serious enough to actually buy one if they build them,
ask them about pricing as well if you wish to know it;)

Now I'm jealous. I knew that would stiffen the car a bunch, but not that much. Congrats! Sounds like the extra bracing we discussed is just dead weight...

Yes, very very solid, our install method and the stiff roof worked out very well indeed, really doubt more bracing is worth the time, cost or added weight.

We wanted this part more than any other mod for the car as it is the most important besides tires and wheels which are easy to get compared to the roof!

We sound deadened the inside with very low weight materials, one layer of ensolite foam, one layer of tin foil and then a second layer of ensolite. This took a bit of time but work it!

Not sure when we can post pics and honesly not much to see, looks like a stock black roof missing to grooves accross it from the outside, inside it covered with enslolite, just not much to see but we do have a few install pics, may post some later.

it replaced the 3 panels right? the deflector, sunroof, and rear panel.

how was the sunroof extraction? how long did it take? if im not mistaken, there is a special tool needed.

Ok, sure understand your interest in this but I may have said to much in one post so here is the basic info to clear things up a bit;)

1) This is not available to buy and there are no immdiate plans to make it available.

2) It is very difficult to install, it needs some major design work on mounting it so most DIY's could install it before it could even be considered ready to sell.

3) Up to the installer whether or not it leaks, ours does not, we tested it at the car wash with high pressure. We spent alot of hours going over and carefully creating our own sealing methods to make sure it does not leak, it came with no provisions for sealing from the manf.

4) Ours is a one piece replacement for all three glass sections and we removed all the hardware, frame, etc, all 62 lbs that unbolts in one giant piece.

5) Removing the stock roof requires removing alot of the interior trim and headliner, some parts do not come off easily, then unbolting and lifting off the roof, you need help to do so.

6) We are not the manf, Kaminari is, if enough seriously interest people call Andy there, they may decide to build them for sale. Call your vendors and distributors as well, get them to call Kaminari also.

7) Price is not established at this time.

Hope this helps sort out a few things here for you guys

Now if you want it, start a calling, email, etc, campain and make it happen!!!!!!!

GRRRRRrrrrrrr LOL, J/K

Not much to see in the pics, looks stock outside minus two grooves, just black Ensolite foam inside with some mounting hardware showing a bit.

We were far more interested in getting the outside lined up as perfectly as possible and getting our mounts lined up so now stress on them as they are glued to the roof that we were with how the mounts actually look so not sure I want to post pics of that area;)

man tat sucks

ya i know how difficult it is to remove the sunroof.

i got the pdf's on how to install and uninstall sunroof and tat thing is so difficult. headliner and al ot of interior pieces come off. and not to mention all the hard to reach screws...

but i tink it woud be nice to have one. lighten up teh load, save some gas. improve cornering.

only thing bad is you lose the SUNROOF hahah

but it goes well with my CF hood and Hatch

rick you said contact kaminari?

i guess ill get a steppin'

How does the interior sound with the replacement roof with ensolite? Is it noisier or quieter than the glass one? Have you had any chance to go up an incline to see if it pops/creaks?

kaminari made the roof, we just made it fit our car

Quieter inside with the new roof and no creaking, rattling, absolutely quiet, even during some hauling **** in an autocross

Thanks, just going to start bugging FAL into making some pexi rear and side windows next, lol!

We do need a CF hood and want a hatch but the rules are a big vague, waiting to hear back from the SCCA about it.

Pics will not show much at all, just looks nearly stock without two of the gaps across the top;) It does look just a tad more sleak but that is about it, we were going to have a CF exterior but went with black gel coat instead.

Our whole car concept is one of integration of the factory look with very high performance real world reliable mods and can and will be used, real world rock chips, dings, etc are going to happen because we are going to really use it as a car

The kind of mods we do are not always photogenic, we like to impress those that understand quality workmanship done almost entirely for the intended performance enhancement. Things just done well and have a subtle clean apperance with alot of fine details like braided loom wiring in black, parts removed, relocated, lightened, the majority of our work will not be visable but let us take you for a ride someday or listen to our audio system, subtle but incredibly dynamic.
