Dealer tried to quote me $1510 to install springs/shocks
So I'm getting a new 06 TC on Friday. I asked to get the TRD springs and shocks added as options. So I'm thinking 300-500 to install em. The dealer tried to quote me $1510 IN LABOR for the install. ____ that I said. What do you guys think? How much SHOULD it cost? Should I risk voiding the warranty by getting the stuff installed outside of the dealer?
at our dealership the whole job (springs, shocks, and struts) is around $1,200 ish including parts and labor.
look at the price on parts, then find out what the hourly rate for service is. ours is $85/hour your dealership may run a little higher. i I believe the job calls for six hours by the book they use and the tax rate may be different for you too.
the quote they gave you may be for parts and labor.
so, i think the price they are trying to charge you seems about right.
I know i could go on all day about warranties but, i think there are enough threads about that to get a good solid answer.

o crap realized this isn't in norcal! ahaha but if your located in norcal then i would go to them.
If u dont liv ein norcal just shop around. You'll find a WAY better price.
As the for the warrantee issue, its TRD so it should give u no problems if done right anyways. Good Luck!

yes, it will void the warranty for the parts you install. AND it may void anything that you had to take apart to do the job. OR you can call your dealership's service department to see what their policy is on this. That is what I would do.
I got my springs done elsewhere and I really am not worried about it. you can find it for less but, like i said you run the risk of voiding that warranty. If the work is done right you shouldn't need to worry about warranty

dealer installs are a rip off! my cousin works at a dealership and he tells me he never works the amount of hours "the book" says to work. most of the time hes done in a 1/4 of the time "the book" says but still charges for all the hours he was supposed to work. your best bet is to have the springs installed elsewhere. if they do it right, then there is no need to worry about the warranty, especially with TRD stuff.
im wondering if i can even do it myself. can i just take the springs and struts to a shop, have them compress the springs onto the strut and then do the install myself? theres a guide on yoursciontc.com on how to do it. what do you guys think?
not saying you can/cant mess it up. but if you've done other installs on your car, then i say go for it. shouldn't be that hard and you can even go to Autozone/car parts place and rent the spring compressor and do that yourself too.
my dealer quoted me $600 just for labor (for just the springs)
my dads friend is going to do it for me for like $140.
im not worried about the warranty. i doubt that anything will happen. just make sure they are installed correctly

Damn $1510 is ridiculously high!!! Well I got mine installed at Longo Toyota here in Southern California...they are also known as the #1 Toyota Dealership in the Nation!!! I just got my car last week Friday and I wanted them to install the TRD shocks/struts and TRD springs before I pick up and drive off the lot. Also, I had it included when I finance the car and did all the paperwork. They ONLY charged me $843 for the parts, installation, labor, etc. To me that's pretty cheap and reasonable coming from a dealership. To some people that might be pricey and can get the parts somewhere else cheaper and have it installed at a local shop cheaper as well. BUT, it was more convenient for me to get it at the dealership...so if something goes wrong I just go back to them. I think I got a pretty good deal...so $1510 is too damn high!!!
awesome. thanks for the info. i'll take that figure to my dealership and see if they can provide me with a similiar rate. cuz the parts themselves are 724 for shocks and springs based on the scion pricing on scion.com, so thats ony 119 installation. damn nice price. thanks a lot.
