Even though y'all think I just troll, I'll share this funny. YSTC "super mod" sent me messages saying I'm a troll for sharing my car, and they know more then god about cars on that site. I also lol'd at them suggesting I join this site.

Socal/Hayseed, this is a perfect example where you both fail to read the text I put vs. just assuming. No where did I say that toe did not affect tire wear. It's widely known that toe affects steering more then tire wear, and camber affects tire wear more then steering. ASE agrees. (Was ASE certified and have done 100's of alignments) While you may think I "troll" these threads I do not, I simply try to put out the most correct information to help the simple "shade tree mechanic."

Socal the pictures you show are exactly that of "toe wear" (though the "exaggerated toe plane" is wrong) It's feathering across the width of the tire, with most of the wear being on the inner side. Camber wear can be both excessive wear on both inside and outside of the tire. For those of you running aggressive camber setups and stretching tires, you can obviously see the results of camber wear. Also notice how you cannot argue that Toe is generally affected by modifying the tie rod's of a vehicle, something in which lowering a vehicle does NOT affect. Troll? No.



To get an example of tire wear and simple causes. While a certain group of you may think I "argue every point" and blah blah blah, you must realize this is a small population in which believes this. Just because you do not agree does not make it wrong and a dick move. As a matter of fact the response in which I had was not a dick response at all. Like I've told Jeremy its time to get the chip of your shoulder and realize car science isn't always narrowed down to a true science. There will always be arguments between enthusiasts as to what is better, its what makes the car world go round.

And to help more of the DIY people, here's some more visual illustrations to help out.



Camber wear obviously on the right. Saying camber does not wear tires by looking at these is simply wrong.

Edit: My heels of my shoes wear faster then the toe's. Although a horrible example of explaining toe socal.

You say this, but you do not practice it. You may think you are giving a logical counter-argument, but in reality you are Projecting yourself as a ********. My PERSONAL argument, as well as what I believe Socals was, is that Toe wears out our ALREADY cambered wheels. For us, camber is normal, it is the name of the game for us. No ____ sherlock, Camber wears out a smaller patch of the tire faster; there is more pressure on a smaller contact patch. We get that. When your toe is messed up, it MULTIPLIES the wear on our ALREADY-GOING-TO-BE-ABNORMALLY-WORN tires.
On a side note though, whenever you hate on something that is partial to the beholder, I.E. a personal preference, I am going to bring back your own words:

Hate all you want on us. I do not care. Just stop and smell the roses, realize that there are people with different ideas than you, and it is ok. When you "argue every point," the way in which you do it is that of a know it all *****. Tone that down, give your .02¢ without being so absolute.

Spicy your wrong, because tires never wear out same with brake pads, clutches, and I also never run out of gas. STFU Already your so ____ing annoying how many pictures from google do you need to post in here? All I'm stating, and I'm correct is that if your toe is out of spec it will wear your tires down much faster than TRUE REAL CAMBER. You can just keep posting all the crap from google that you want, but I'm going off of real experiences I've had with Camber/Toe. I bet you don't even know how to adjust it......lol. Oh I love your statement about how Toe isn't changed while lowering in a vehicle that what "google" states. Well in reality your toe is off every time your lower it, of else there would be no point in getting an ALIGNMENT!.

I'm done even trying. Clearly someone who is a backyard mechanic clearly has more knowledge then someone who did the job for years. Or more then what ASE says about the subject. Camber is your BIGGEST factor that is adjusted when you lower a car, its simple. You can believe whatever google/japandrift crap you guys read. Also LOL@ you guys arguing informative pictures to actually help the thread. Get the chip of you shoulders boys. The ones that caused an argument are you 2 who come in here hootin and a hollerin because there boy is wrong. Because of wrong information, this is why Scion modders can often be looked at as idiots. Just sayin homies.

Only issues I had from dropping mine was camber in the back and toe in the front. Fronts are worn a ton even though they keep attempting to adjust it and fail, it still pulls right and still has that feathering crap and my tires are wearing out pretty quick. Backs look damn near brand new even though the camber is off by quite a bit. No I don't drive harsh which is evident in the fact my auto is still intact even being on high boost.

Camber does normally cause high amounts of wear being there is not much tire contacting the road, and what is in contact is under high pressure. Toe does normally cause steering issues but when you have camber and the toe is out it causes massive wear. When you camber your wheels chances are you have them stretched by a lot. I am guessing it changes the geometry of what is contacting the pavement when compared to a normally fitted good aspect tire.

I'm deal with this daily, he's typing "CAMBER WEAR" on google. Then you get a bunch of picture of people who probably drove 20k miles on a messed up alignment, then post a picture of a gnarly ate up tire. I rotate my tires every 5k miles after that. I can get them flipped, and then get another whole rotation out of the set. I'm at -2 on my front, maybe more I have no clue, and they wore perfect, but since I messed around with my rear Toe...they wore only on a half inch of tread. I just put more Toe in on my rear. If your looking to get 30k miles out of your tires that's your priority not mine.

Jermeycrock, Socal, how many alignments have you done in your life? How many classes have you taken for Automotive Technology and Repair? How many hours in a shop or certifications have you held? Exactly. Just looking at how you like to ride "super low" with "ballin camber angles" you can tell you don't know much about tire wear. Also note how I'm not the ONLY ONE saying camber is causing more wear issues.

Socal, I LOL@you saying "he just typed Camber wear" in google. You do realize I posted ONE picture of actual worn tires from camber correct? Or are you simply too ignorant to see that? The other pictures posted are examples, much like that they use in dealerships or classes to show the differences.

Read a book, stop spreading WRONG information based on 1 car you've modded with a homie, and quit reading forums online to get answers you want. Simply put, stop spreading false information to people who will potentially use this DIY. Jeremy at least had the right idea for the parts of the video I skimmed through. It's the false information and you 2 whining like little school girls claiming troll because they can't act like adults and admit they were wrong.

OK so i tried the DIY today and while turning the camber bolt in, i noticed that the metal thing with the slashes in it (looks like a clock face) that sits on the other side of the bolt also turned with it...does that make a difference or have you noticed it made a difference? after adjusting the camber my drivers side is probably around -1.5...while my passenger side is probably around -2 or -2.5...hard to eyeball it lol...and then you set the car back down and drive it a little, the camber changes even more as the springs settle again...lol so ill be doing this again soon...

to answer your question in the video, I have the TRD exhaust and yes, it does get in the way if you plan to use an impact wrench to loosen the nut.

Usually by turning the tie rods.

That and if you don't have the proper tools you won't be able to measure it properly. You can't really eyeball angles like that.

Ok well long story short, the rear wheels are so Toe'd in that it can be visibly seen while standing next to the car. My dealership doesnt have the new programming for the 2011 MY's on the alignment rack, so I was figuring I would get under there and do a temporary adjustment to save the life of the tires before they get the software update and I can get a real alignment done...

I went with STechs and now the rear is toe'd in and the passenger side is cambered more than the driver side, surprisingly, the front "looks" perfect.

Find a new dealership or shop to do it. If they don't have the software that is BS..they should have had the software since before the car even came out. I mean the 2nd gen has been out since late last year and it's April and they don't have the software? That is total crap.
