Default E BRAKE QUESTION

Whats going on guys,

I recently got my breaks and rotors changed, and i noticed that when i put the e break up, it does not brake the car unless its completely up. i still have to put it in gear for that extra added security. I know the breaks are not worn, I called the shop and he said that their may be a loose cable or something.. does anyone have any ideas how i could fix this?

There is a way to adjust the cable inside the rear rotor... if you had a shop install them, they should be the ones to adjust it for you.

the parking brake has nothing to do with your rear brake pads and rotors. the parking brake is a drum brake located inside the hat of your rear brake rotors. they just need to adjust and tighten the cable to tighten it up.

^^ that's true but if they turned the rotors on the back then they took the hub/rotor off.. you got work done there they should adjust it for free

sometimes not always, and why should they? they replaced rotors, unless it says in the repair order "adjust e-brake free of charge" then they shouldnt have to do it for free...

to the op, my e-brake did the same thing. would not stop my car from rolling back on my driveway. all i had to do was adjust it. its really easy to adjust at the back rotor.

just take the rear wheels off and there is a small circle rubber plug on the face of the rotor. pop that rubber circle piece off with a flat head and rotate the rotor until the hole is at the bottom (6 o'clock position) now look inside that hole and u will see the e-brake adjuster

using the flathead screwdriver push up on the little teeth of the e-brake adjuster. it will click each time u push up on the teeth.

everynow and then turn the rotor while adjusting the e-brake. when u feel the rotor being stopped by the e-brake shoes as u spin it u should be good. u will know when u have over tightened the adjuster. hope this helps.

i did mine in 15 mins for both sides. and that was before i knew what i was doing. it would be more hassle to go back to the shop imo.

maybe they did turn down the inside of the rotor drum (ebrake location) and failed to adjust properly... like the other peeps have said...it is an easy adjustment..but unless you are familiar with doing that...the shop should do it free for ya.

where did you get it done.. most places will charge you a 20 fee to clean and adjust the brakes... 20 to clean and adjust that means 20 to adjust the ebrake... i'm not arguing that it will only take a few mins to adjust the ebrake but if you don't have to get dirty and get it done free... no brainer to me

Default thanks

Thanks for the help, I installed my fogs by myself the other week, DIY time was estimated around 30 mins. It took me about 3 hours.. and the end result of that was the auto function on the windows stopped working, my needle stopped doing the jump, and my left hid stopped working. But that all got sorted out, I'm afraid if even attempt to think ab out adjusting the cable myself my car would explode.. but I'm learning. for now ill take it to the shop and have them adjust.. thanks guys

Good times

Well a couple of those things aren't really your fault. The auto thing on the windows will stop working when you disconnect the battery and just needs to be reset (sunroof too). That's normal so you didn't mess anything up.

Not sure about the needle jump part - I don't think I've seen that reset with the windows, but it's possible.

Not sure about the HID though... could still be related to the battery disconnect.

Some of these things are just the nature of the work you're doing and shouldn't really detur you from doing more.
