Default How hard is it to install Coilovers/springs/struts?

Anyone know how hard it is to install these components? Im thinking about getting the Tein Basic Coilover package - when i get the 800. So on a scale of one to ten, how hard would this be?

Yes i have worked on cars before, strangely enough though, never did shocks or struts. Ive done a engine overhaul(caddy), tranny overhauls(hyundai, beetle), and intake and exhaust work(BMW), but never did suspension. So if i get tein coilovers im looking at about a 5 out of 10 for difficulty? I think the only tool ill need is a coil tensioner to remove my existing coils.

It shouldn't be TOO bad, as long as you know what you're doing... You should be able to simply unbolt the existing struts from the control arms, and the nuts that hold the top of the strut in, and then just put the coilovers in place, and re-tighten everything.

You shouldn't even need a spring compressor to get the existing springs off. I was able to get mine off on my old car... Yeah, it's a different car, but you might be able to get it done w/out the compressor.

I wouldnt listen to this guy.

I installed them last week. A must is : SPRING COMPRESSORS, breaker bar, friend, jack, and torque wrench if you want to do it right.

LOL, maybe if you read EVERYTHING I said... it was that I was basing that assumption on the fact that on my previous two cars, I was able to remove the springs without a spring compressor. Yea, it'll make things easier to do, but both times for me, I had two people, one to put their weight on the top of the strut assembly, and another to loosen the top bolt.

What makes it less of a worry is that no replacement springs would need to be put on, and that's the harder part.

But, if you've done the installation before, then your advice is definitely more complete and reliable. I was just speaking from previous personal experience... I guess the assumption was turned into a factual thing or something along the way... I wasn't aware that giving advice based on previous experience had to turn into a personal attack... next time I'll keep that in mind when giving advice.

honestly it depends on what you get... you get some tein ss-p like me its cake cuz u unbolt the old suspension and bolt the new stuff in no need to decompress the springs...

Let me know if you need anything tein or wanna ride in my car since your local to me
