how long will stock struts, shocks, and springs normally last? im thinking of getting h&r coilovers but ive got some parental restrictions so stock has to be a bit worn down...ive got 20k miles right now. (ps...how can i wear down stock sooner lol) secondly, how long do coilovers last? specifically the h&r's...although i doubt their longevity is different than any other brand's. thanks for the help...

 

60k miles i would say for the stock suspension

Seriously? Well....the way that auto manufacturers emulate road conditions for the suspension is to have a machine that attaches to your axle hubs which basically jackhammers for hours on end. This emulates very bad road conditions and then some. Theoretically, you could do this by driving on heavily pitted roads a lot, at normal speeds, but bear in mind that if you succeed in doing this, you'll also have probably loosened every single bolt and fastener on your tC, thereby making it a rattletrap. You'll also need new wheels by the end of this, and will most likely damage your CV joints and other suspension parts.

Your best bet is to research the advantages of coilovers (better road handling, etc.) and present that to the 'rents.

 

wear it out quicker = wearing out all the other components in your car.

Just wait, its not worth it. Or just get a job and pay for it yourself.

If you really want to kill your car, drive the Nurburgring about five times. I'm not even sure the tC would it that many times around the track.

 

agh aight...it sucks...i pay for every last drop of it...but they still have to okay it...whatever, ill tell them i found a sweet deal on used ones for like 300 bucks and see if they bite it.

I would think it all depends on the road conditions and how aggressive you are when driving. Sorry I'm not answering your question, but I have H&R coils and I'll be disappointed if it blows under 60k miles.

 

Drive around without springs... seriously...

I wouldn't recommend trying to blow your suspension. You wouldn't know what else you would break. Just get a job and pay for it, like everyone else. I'm not hating on you but don't be leeching off your parents because you want coilovers.

 

naw thats what i said before....I am paying for it, not them. me. not them. every last drop of it....me, not them. but they still have final say. aight questions been answered anyways....60k or more for both stock and coilovers

 

why dont you do this
pay off the car
have them sign the car over in your name
get your own insurance
and then you can do whatever you want and no one will be able to tell you any different

 

i pay insurance, i pay everything, i have 2k left to pay off.....and they claim they're still gonna restrict me and what i do to it even after i pay it off....whatever.

 

jack the whole car, remove the rims, lift the dust cover. get something really rough ( sand paper ) then start scratching shiny silver part of your shock/strut.

drive it around and wait for it to leak

as far as your coil springs, if u really want to screw it up, simple blow torch some parts of it and strecth or compress it.

that combo should give you a reason to replace it quick!

skier, if you are making all the payments, then just buy the parts and install it yourself. The rear suspension can get tricky, but it's not too hard. After that it's just an alignment, and you're done.
