Default Looking for a simple drop, which option should I choose?

Hello, I want to drop my scion tc about 1.5 to 2 inches, should I buy coilovers or just some drop springs? Most important thing for me is how the car rides and ease of installation.

Thank you,
Mike

If you want ease of installation, cheap setup that is something you can depend on, get the TRD springs. They only drop the car 1.2", but they are built to work with the stock shocks (which you'd probably blow out otherwise) and the TRD name is probably a lot better for the car in the long run. I think it looks great, especially if you want something reliable for a daily driver. I'd do it a second but I can't afford to use any ground clearance - I drive up into the mountain snow during the winter... don't want to be any closer to the ground.

Thanks, is the 1.2" drop noticable though? All id need for this install is some sockets and a spring compressor, correct?

Here's what my TRD springs look like after settling in. If you want to go lower, a lot of ppl stick by Tein and Goldlines. Personally, I'd do the TRD springs all over again.

EDIT: A friend installed mine, so I'm not exactly certain, but you may need a compressor to get a couple of lock nuts out... I hear doing it by hand takes 2-3 people. I think it's in the rear.

Does it squeak when you ride?

Nope, noise whatsoever. My friend is good! He's installed a lot of the springs for SE Hawaii members... heck, he's our President! haha j/k.

Though if you want a little peace of mind, you can buy Tein's rubber sleeves that wrap around the springs to prevent the springs from slapping itself as it compresses.

Also, this spring is the best drop spring I've ever rode in! From Intrax to skunks, heck, they're not as low as Teins but the TRD's ride quality is so awesome! It's a little stiffer, but it doesn't feel so bouncy like it did when it was stock... honestly, I think the ride quality is better with the TRD's!

So with the TRD springs, you dont have to by new shocks or coilovers? so the stock shocks wont blow faster?

The spring rate isn't far off from stock. I have a pretty smooth ride without the shocks!

The shocks are supposed to be designed for dropped cars though, so the choice is yours.

The shocks are supposed to be fine with the TRDs but I haven't heard that claim with anything else - I also think that there aren't any alignment or camber issues, or aren't supposed to be, with the TRD stuff. Should make the ride tighter through the curves too. People who aren't looking for more drop all seem to be pretty happy with it.

That's what I just ordered. They're a little tighter than the TRD springs and they drop the car a LITTLE bit more. I think they'll be fine on the stock struts.

The TRD S-tech's drop the car quite a bit... I don't think putting those on the stock struts would be a good idea. The H-techs are supposed to be fine with them though.

i put mine on s techs. the TRD wasnt a significant drop in my opinion. tein is definitely a lot lower in comparison. the ride is a little bouncier, but a small price to pay for great looks and good cornering (small price to pay as long as you plan on investing in new struts within 20,000 miles).

h-techs. Very noticeable drop, and the ride is comfy as hell. Don't think they'll blow the stock struts in the near future or throw off the camber much, but get an alignment after any drop.

Default H&R

i went with the H&R sport springs and they are tight. IMO the drop is perfect, looks really nice but not slammed so i don't have to worry about scrapping or bottoming out. No noise, the springs are machined beautifully and finished in red. The ride i think is even smoother than stock, but on the turns you can definately feel the car hugging the road much, much better. No more bouncing on the highway turn like i used too, just glued to the road. And the ride quality i dont think is affected, my girlfriend couldn't even feel the differnce over bumps, or speed bumps.
I will post pics ASAP.

Which website did you get the H&R sport springs at?
